In the epilogue at the end, we know that they still sort students in hogwarts...do you think sorting should have been stopped after nineteen years in the epilogue because it creates enmity among the students and builds up stereotypes....or do you think it is a fair division among the students?
I personally cannot decide b/c I wanted to see Hogwarts as one and sorting stopped but sometimes its fun, so its okay.😆
What do you guys think?😊

i think the sorting should still go on.... because your house is a reflection of who you really are... and i think that's important

I disagree with the above posts. Sorting people into different houses creates enmity and pre-conceived notions regarding people of a specific house. It classifies students as "loyal" "brave" "cunning" et al and tends to undermine a quality they may possess that isn't necessarily the trademark of their house - ie. just because someone is in Hufflepuff, doesn't inherently meant that they are dumb or can't be conniving, Death Eaters or courageous. Sorting essentially labels a person, molding the students to think a certain way and that in itself isn't fair. As amusing as the Hat is, it promotes isolationism between the houses (Especially Slytherin and the rest) and creates unnecessary conflicts. I say, feed it to Buckbeak.

I think there SHOULD be sorting, because it is an age-old tradition, and reflect's one's inner personality. It's the students' own fault if there's disunion, not the house's. Plus, the Great Founders created the sorting hat. It just can't be stopped.

Firstly I don't believe sorting creates enmity b/w students ... Enmity is caused because the students gives too much importance to their houses and seperates themselves by thinking that someone from the different house is their enemy ...
ESP Gryffindor and Slytherin does that. I havent seen Ravenclaw and Hufflefuff behaving that way, or maybe they weren't shown.
But I guess the teachers and everyone should tell the students that they all are human beings first and then comes there house. So, the children won't be so much bugges with their house and stop helping others ...
BTW i have a question about this sorting thing: If the hat chooses the wizard according to their personality, then one house may have a large number of students while the other house mightn have less, naa???? Because see, there might be more of 'cunning' people than 'brave' one, then?? Will one house have more students while the other have few??? Did this happen during Harry's time?

I don't think the books mention exactly how many students each house has, but it does mention that the Great Hall always holds hundreds of students, so there has to be unequal amounts of students in each house. We know for sure that Harry's year in Gryffindor has five boys (Harry, Ron, Neville, Dean, and Seamus) and three girls (Hermione, Parvathi, and Lavender), but there could be more Slytherins, or Ravenclaws, or Hufflepuffs, right? But come to think about it, Hermione's dormitory could have more girls, but I don't think so, or they would have been mentioned at least a little, right?

Phoeniz dragon and godisone: Yes, if Hermy's dormitory have contained more number of students than three, then i am sure JKR would have definitely mentioned it...and since there were more number of students in the school that that, i wud assume each house might have unequal numbers of students. And JKR said she will not write the encyclopoedia now...she said she will right,m but at any time. It can be 10 years later too 😆 But we can research it in the net .....
