DARKNESS EVEN BELOW LAMP

In the past we have compared the professional achievements of brothers and sisters, but there is a need to value the children's contribution to the industry in comparison to their parents too. The need has arisen because of the entry of a lot of children even in the presence of their parents. There have been allegations of favoritism by the directors and the producers when the latter give preference to the sons or daughters of the stars in spite of their weaknesses. Truly speaking, the industry is full of such instances these days.

Some of the talented artists have expressed their frustration in the absence of any godfather to support them. This is a loss of the industry. Let's take the example of the Bachchan family. While the tinsel town owes a lot to Amitabh, his son Abhishek has acted in several films but has not attained any name either in the acting skill or the dialogue delivery. 'Dhoom' is an exception, though. But its credit doesn't go to him.

The same applies to Raj Babbar's son Aryan. His two movies --- 'Ab Ke Baras' and 'Thoda Tum Badlo Thoda Hum' flopped unlike his father's. Jitendra's son Tushaar fared well in his first film 'Mujhe Kuchh Kahna Hai' but his later 'Gayab' and 'Insaan' stood nowhere close to his father's. Again, 'Khakee' was acclaimed but not his role in it. Vinod Khanna's son Rahul is much behind his father. Deepa Mehta's 'Arth' and 'Hollywood-Bollywood' were different, yet Rahul gets no credit.

Even 'Elaan' failed to help Rahul. Rajendra Kumar was a name to reckon with and his son Kumar Gaurav had a super hit in 'Love Story' and earned fame in ' Naam', but thereafter disappointed the viewers in his 'Phool' and 'Kaante'. Similarly, Kabir Bedi's son Adam acted in 'Hello Kaun' without any success. Kunal Kapoor, son of Shashi Kapoor, has met the same fate. His brother Karan has just disappeared after his 'Saltnat' and 'Loha'.

Let's now talk about daughters of well-known stars. Esha Deol's 'Dhoom' has been an exception while all her other movies have been far, far away from her mother Hema Malini's who became the dream girl of Bollywood. Esha's long list of 'Kya Dil Ne Kaha', 'Na Tum Jano Naa Hum', 'Yuva', 'Chura Liya Hai Tumne' and 'Koi Mere Dilse Poonche' is a bundle of flops. However, 'LoC' did well but not because of her.

Rajesh Khanna who dominated the Hindi movie world for a very long time and his wife Dimple Kapadia who is still popular among viewers, may be sad to know that their daughter Twinkle flopped in 'Joru Ka Ghulam, 'Mela', 'International Khiladi', 'Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan', 'Julmi', 'Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai', 'Itihas', 'Uff Yeh Mohabbat', and 'Dil Tera Deewana', soon after her 'Barsaat'. Mala Sinha, a heartthrob of her time, saw her daughter Pratibha failing at box office though she looks as pretty as the mother. Her 'Kal Ki Aawaz', 'Dil Hai Betaab, 'Tu Chor Main Sipahi, 'Ek Tha Raaja', 'Gudgudi', 'Koi Kisise Kam Nahin', Zanzeer' and Military Raj' failed to carry viewers with her.

The dimpled Bengal beauty Sharmila Tagore is sad too with the performance of her daughter Soha Ali, whose Hindi debut ' Dil Maange More' brought no laurel to the family though it's to early to dismiss her future. Lastly, Moon Moon Sen's two daughters-- Riya and Raima-- have been struggling for their survival in the industry for quite some time. Tanuja's younger daughter Tanisha has also disappeared after her 'Ssshhhh'. This all shows that one could survive in this highly competitive industry on the basis of one's talent and hard work, and not due to the status of one's parent.

Ok I agree with some but don't agree with all of them...
Abhi has now become a good actor even he won a filmfare award for best supporting actor...he has been improve in every film whether that is dhoom,Yuva or some else....
You talked about Rahul but what about Akhsay isn't he the son of Vinod khanna.....And rahul is not into movies too much he is a model boy...thats all.
Same is case with esah she has done best performance in her every film whether it is Na tum jano na hum, Kya dil ne...,LOC,Yuva or dhoom or Insaan and is improving day by day....her mother told that it tooks 3 yrs for my 1st hit....Esha has 2 major hits in her 3 yrs.
And for Tanisha and Soha it is just the start.....Tanish has a big movie comming tango charli and soha has also one movie with Aamir....

And why u didn't write about Saif, Kajor,Akshay Khanna, Kareena, Karisham....and some more like them.......Aren't they children of Stars.
