Contemporary or period drama?

Do these kind of marriages happen even now?

I have just seen two episodes so far. The one yesterday and the one before that. I realised it is the story of a child bride and how she has to cope with her new found home. The little girl is really endearing. 👏

I am a bit confused though, is this a contemporary story or a period theme?😕 I know such marriages are occurring in many parts of India and more so in Rajasthan. But the family seems to be educated. So why the haste to get Anandi married? 🤔 Even the intervention of the social worker I believe didn't put off the marriage. 😲 That was disheartening. 😔
I also noticed the written messages at the end of the episodes. P'haps, in a way, they are trying to spread the message that, at the end of the day, child marriages are not really okay. 👍🏼 But most of us cannot catch the written words fast enough. If one needs to discourage this regressive custom, I think there should be a voice that speaks out this message/ slogan for greater impact. If the serial is trying to disuade people from this awful practice, then I am all for it. 👍🏼 Even if ten minds are converted to thinking progressively, it would be gr8. I would hate little girls like Anandi to miss out on the best part of their lives --- childhood. 😡 😭
It's only my POV but don't you think so too? ❓🤔

I know these marriages r still ocurring in many places. But I don't think the families are very educated. In the case of Anandi, her parents and in laws seem to be more educated and hence my confusion.

Very well said skeptical and i completely agree.
It is true that unfortunately child marriage is still prevalent in various parts of India, areas which need social workers and educationists. What happened with Anadi's teacher is truly disheartening but again is unfortunately true. In fact, in cases like these, a woman who attempts to speak out against the stystem is frequently raped so that she 'understands' how powerfully the system is stacked against her.
My question is similar to yours - the show is saying that this happens and it is true that this happens. The show is also showing Anandi unhappy every day, losing out on her childhood, her right to life and happiness every day. That is why so far i have enjoyed it, but i really am curious to see where it heads next. I hope it does not disappoint by saying that it was ok for Anandi to get married so early.
As far as education is concerned, i do not think her parents or in-laws are very educated. They are simply very rich, an income that they earn through land and farming. Yes Anoup Soni and Smita Bansal are more sensitive than the other people in the household but i have never seen any scene that suggests that they are educated. Have you seen anything that made you think they are educated?

Hi Whynot!!
Actually I am just three episodes old. And so I presumed that the parents were educated ----- eh I mean they had educated opnions. So far I am hopeful that the serial wont digress. The minute it does, I am outta here.

Hi there. You can call me shvetal 😊 - a pleasure to meet you.
Yes her parents do have very sensible and sensitive opinions. In fact, my best friend and i had both debated this - are her in-laws educated or not? (As this proves, we actually have no life!)
I know exactly what you mean - each week i think that maybe something will happen that will shatter my faith in the show, but so far the show has trod the path between realism and sensitivity rather well, i think.
