According to Swami Vivekananda "......India for thousands of years peacefully existed. Here activity prevailed when even Greece did not exist. Even earlier time when history has no records, and tradition dares not peer into the gloom of that intense past, even from uptil now, ideas after ideas have marched after her, but every word has been spoken with a blessing behind it and peace before it. We, of all nations of the world, have never been a conquering race, and that blessing is on our head."

According to Grant Duff, British historian of India "Many of the advances in the sciences that we consider today to have been made in Europe, were infact made in India centuries ago."

Himadri tunga shringani,
Tiranga ranga rangini,
Namami matru Bharathi,
Sahastra deepa aarthi.

Build by nature, this GOD blessed land- witht he mighty Himalayas in the north, the Arabian sea in the west, the Indian ocean in the south and the Bay of Bengal to the east, India has been the cradle of civilizations starting with the Harappan Culture.

Accompanied by the vedas, guided by ahimsa of buddhism and Jaiism, India marched ahead making an unforgetable place for itself int he world with a record of being the only country in the world to limit its wars to the battlefield only and leaving other inhabitants of the kingdom unscathed.

Became the empires of many dynasties starting from the Mauryas, Guptas, Chalukyas, Rastrakutas, Pallavas, Sultanet of delhi and finally the Mughals, India then had to enter the slavery of the Britishers under the East India Company.

With the ruining of the Indian industry and trade, India was reduced from the position of a princpal exporter to that of the largest consumers of foreign products. Its education in distress and its society in shambles. Then we started reformingourself under the guidence of Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Dayanand Saraswati, Swami Vivekananda, Annie Besant ,Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and many others..

This growth of awareness and the conditions created byt he british rule led to the birth of indian nationalism. Starting witht he revolts of Bengal n Bihar(1763), Midnpur(1766), Rangpur(1983), Mysore (1830-31), Khandesh(1852) and many individual heros like Velu Thambi of Travancore and Rani Chinnamma of Kittur, this resentment finally led to an all round war in 1857. Though suppressed brutally, the war will always have an impact on our history , with the hindus n muslims fighting shoulder to shoulder. The deeds of valour of Rani of Jhansi, Maulvi Ahmadulla, Nana Saheb, Tantia Tope, Mangal Pandey still inspires us.

After a calm of few decades, the indian nationalism rose again witht he swadeshi n boycott movements and finally became a mass movement under the leadership of Gandhiji. The NonCo-operation movement, the Civil Disobidience movement, the Quit India movement along with many other revolts led by Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekar Azad, Subhash Chandra Bose forced the britishers to end their rule n thus we gained our freedom on 15 August 1947

Let us cherish this day, when Indians came out of the slavery and decided to build their country for themselves and for their children. So to quote the words of our first prime-minister:
"The ambition of the greatest man of our generation has been to wipe every tear from every eye. That may be beyond us, but as long as there are tears and suffering, so long will our work be not over. And so, we have to labour and to work and work hard to give reality to our dreams. Those dreams are for India"
And also his appeal to the people of India ".......to join us with faith and confidence in this great adventure. This is no time for petty and distructive critism, no time for ill will or blaming others. We have to build the noble mansion of free India where all her children may dwell"
