Debutant Prachi Desai is a bubbly girl who loves to use 'amazing' a lot. We got her to answer a few questions while she was watching her favourite actor Hrithik Roshan's Mujhse Dosti Karoge. The young television star tells us about her rocking Rock On! experience.
How did you bag the role?
The producers, Ritesh and Farhan were looking for a girl opposite Farhan and they had not found anyone. Abhishek Kapoor's mom saw me on Jhalak Dikhla Ja and suggested me for the part. So Abhishek got in touch with Ekta Kapoor and asked her to send me for an audition. I had to give a look test and they found me perfect for the part, so thankfully, I got the role.
Tell us about your character and look in the film.
I cannot reveal much right now but I can say that she is a very sweet, positive, real, modern South Bombay girl. She loves her husband. I had to cut my hair for the film. The clothes are absolutely amazing—they are casual yet modern, sophisticated and not over-the-top.
How is working in films different from TV serials?
Films are more organized. You have to shoot for fewer hours than TV. For TV, you have to shoot an entire episode in a day. But for films, you have to shoot 2-3 scenes a day. There is no compromise on quality in films; you have to give it your best shot, irrespective of the number of retakes. On TV, no one wants to compromise, but sometimes we have to rush things up. Also, characters in films are very real and natural while the ones in serials are exaggerated and over-the-top.
How was your first day of shooting?
For Rock On! I was given my script in advance so I understood my character graph well. I knew how much I had to prepare for each scene and schedule. I was very nervous and excited on my first day because it was my first day in Bollywood. Everyone from Farhan to Koel made me very comfortable. I shot with Shahana on the first day and she is really sweet and an amazing actor.
Tell us something about your co-actors.
I am a big fan of Farhan's films. DCH was so real and funny and he has given such a variety in 3 movies only with DCH, Lakshya and Don. So it was my dream-come-true to work with him in his acting debut. He is such an amazing actor and a funny guy; he will crack 20 jokes in a minute which made the atmosphere very lively. Arjun is sweet and a prankster kinda guy too. Purab is really sweet and I clicked really well with him. Luke is a very quiet guy. Koel is a very funny girl and cannot keep her mouth shut.
Rock On! releases on August 29.
