Episode 19: Nov 22, 2005
Segment 1: Still high on the drama last week, where Apurva and Shilpa (Jodi no. 06), one of the favourites to win the Nach Baliye crown were eliminated. Despite good performance, they lost out on audience votes! Participants lament that a good performance alone was not enough and fingers begin to point at Rajiv and Delnaaz, who, despite being in the danger zone thrice, have survived purely on audience votes.
Segment 2: A full-blown controversy; contestants and their choreographers deeply embroiled on moot questions. "Do Rajiv and Delnaaz deserve to be in the show despite several poor performance?" "Are their audience votes genuine or are they voting for themselves?" "And if they are, do they deserve to be on the show?"
Tempers run high and attitudes thrown around...
Rajiv brags that if the audience loves him, his personality and his dimples, that makes others jealous! Varun challenges saying "Agar woh hamse acche hain toh accha naach kar dikhaayein!
Segment 3: Theme for this week announced: Solo. All five couples practice individually. Some like Delnaaz, enjoy it, while Parmeet and Supriya feel lonely and disadvantaged. But one thing for sure, they are all going to have fun dancing to their own individual abilities!
Episode 20: Nov 23, 2005
Segment 1: Solo stories of the couples unwind...
From the time he ran away from home to the time he met Ekta Kapoor, Manish 's struggle story has been one of dramatic ups and downs! He still chokes on his words as he recounts them on camera. His wife Poonam, (whom he met on the sets of Kasautii Zindagi Kay says he was a flirt. But all said and done, theirs is a sweet family of three with a year old son who is Poonam's numero uno priority in life.
Saluting the spirit of Mumbai, Archana Puran Singh looks at her long eventful journey rather philosophically. She starts on her husband's story by sharing her reaction to his decision to be an actor. But Parmeet, (as he later said), proved everybody (including Archana) wrong!
Rajeshwari carries lunch for Varun who is on shoot, the way farmer's wives do for their husbands in the fields, in a basket! Shyam Benegal, (Who directed Rajeshwari in several films), endorses her as an actress.
Segment 2: Still on the journey of the jodis, we join Varun and Rajeshwari as they relish a rare meal cooked by the wife, presented in an age-old way. From 'struggling to survive' to Assistant Director to actor, Varun has had an interesting journey. Varun's father, (a senior stage and film actor), narrates how he had bought him a one-way train ticket to Mumbai when Varun expressed his desire to be an actor.
Sachin has been around for quite some time now but his jourmey started as a child artist. He has been a successful actor, a successful director and a playback singer, and done all that rather early in life. In contrast, Supriya has never planned or sought things in life. She had been quite accident prone as a child, her father recalls. Even her career as an actor happened to her, She did not plan it.
Delnaaz takes a trip down the memory lane and takes us to her college, Jaihind. She is well remembered there as a good student, a good dancer and also as a teacher! Rajiv, her husband, plays with his dog as he remembers his struggle to survive and find work in a way, tugs at our emotional chords, seeking sympathy.
Segment 3: The countdown to the performance... The tension is palpable as always, but this time everyone's attitude is more philosophical. The choreographers are equally nervous about their performing couples, in solo this time!
Sachin and Parmeet feel trapped by the whole exercise of rehearsals and performance and elimination. Manish bets that Rajiv and Delnaaz will survive another round of elimination. Parmeet is ill just before the performance and Archana is worried if he will be able to perform at all.
Episode 21 - The 'Solo' Finale: This time, as the competition becomes tougher and tougher, the old warriors of Nach Baliye return to support their friends.
Apoorva and Shilpa come with a message to the audience, as to how complacency in voting affects the efforts put in. Shilpa talks about how Nach Baliye as a Programme had changed her TV status from being known as Ganga to Shilpa Saklani Agnihotri. They end their message by once again requesting the viewers to vote via sms, calls or by logging onto indya.com.
Amit had a different story altogether and he starts off with "I completely agree with both Apoorva and Shilpa. But main aaj yahaan isliye aaya hu kyunki Neeru is shooting and the only other place where people listen to me is on the sets of Nach Baliye. I am here to cheer up the rest of the Jodis and have a gala time myself. And ya love you Saroj ji, luvya Farhan and ok…you too Baby (to Malaika). Aur ek aur baat kehna chahoonga, Please vote for your favorite Jodi kyunki aaj jo bhi yahaan parr huss rahey hai unki sabki fati padi hai. They need your votes!"
Every week, a new excitement on Nach Baliye and this time it was the solo performance round! Each couple was split, to showcase their talents without their jodi. And this is how they fared...
Archana Puran Singh: Song: Najaane Kahaan Se Aayi Hai Film: Chaalbaaz
Comments: Saroj Khan: "I am very disappointed with your performance. Steps itne aapke</> repeat huey hai is song par ki main kya kahu? It's not your fault but your choreographers'. Malaika: "I definitely missed Parmeet in your dance. You tried a lot of things, comedy, fun and all, but it was strictly below average. But I still love you." Farhan: "Definitely below par, it was a standard selection. We expected a lot more as comedy is your forte. You did not grab the opportunity and it was a bad start to the day's performances"
At the Green Room: Apoorva and Shilpa wait for Archana as Parmeet remains in his vanity-van, unwell. Jasmeet (on being asked about the performance by Sangita): Am happy that at least we tried something new.

Comments: Farhan: "Rajeshwari, great job! It was truly a sight for sore eyes. Good to see some traditional stuff out of the more or less fun performances. The in-built clock in you with the rhythm is functioning exceptionally well." Saroj: "We know that you are a trained dancer, but the way you carried off this performance was brilliant. Jis tarah aapne beats pakda, 'Tha' ka Jo rhythm use kiya and built that momentum, that climax…Very good. Good work by the choreographer and you have truly touched India and very nice subject to pick up. Keep it up." Malaika: "This is a great thing about your performance, it had everything-your facial expressions were good, you flirted with the audience, very wholesome, beautiful mesmerizing and a lovely performance."

Scores: Malaika Arora Khan: 8 Farhan Akhtar: 8 Saroj Khan: 9
Supriya Pilgaonkar: Song: Chaley jaise hawaayein sanan sanan Film: Main Hoon Na
Comments: Malaika: "You are dancing better than your better half now. You have loads of problems with the twirl step and then jo takkar hui. Lekin aapki smile nahi gayi chehre se. Steps were tough but great variety, a new area attempted successfully. A rocking, rock star performance."
Farhan: "Supriya, mujhe aapke jeans ki cuts bahut achche lagey. There's a new contest now in Nach Baliye. Earlier, Jodiyon ke beech tha. Ab Sachin aur Supriya ke beech mein ek naya competition hai. A very contagious performance. We all loved it."
Saroj: "Aapne Sachin ji ka naam rakh diya. Very good, you enjoyed it and made us enjoy it, we loved it. You kept us longing for your next step."
At the Green Room: Sachin: "I started off as her director, then co-actor, then husband, audience and right now her biggest fan!"
Scores: Malaika Arora Khan: 9 Farhan Akhtar: 9 Saroj Khan: 10
Poonam Song: Morni bagama Film: Lamhe
Comments: Saroj: "It is one of my favourite songs and I have choreographed it myself. Iska rhythm bahut hi difficuilt hai kyunki jab main choreograph kar rahi thi, tab bhi mujhe problems ho rahey the. And I think you were simply fabulous."
Farhan: "I think you can become the tourism mascot for Rajasthan. Exceptional performance, great choreography but try and get out of this Rajasthani get up every time. But today's performance was simply great."
Malaika: Brilliant, fabulous and by far, the best tonight.
At the Green Room: Manish: "I remember Saroj ji talking about performing dil se. Aur yeh toh unhi ka gaana hai. I had seen just one rehearsal and after today's performance I can say that I get all the confidence from Poonam."
Scores: Malaika Arora Khan: 10 Farhan Akhtar: 10 Saroj Khan: 9
Rajeev Paul Song: I am a disco dancer Film: Disco Dancer
Comments: Farhan: "For your outfit I give you 10 out of 10. Really a good performance, am damn happy to be here to witness this Rajeev Performance. After the last week fiasco, you have justified still being in the contest."
Saroj: "I enjoyed a lot. Aisa lag raha hai jaise Mithun chhota ho gaya ho…Your confidence was brilliant."

Scores: Malaika Arora Khan: 7 Farhan Akhtar: 8 Saroj Khan: 7
Varun Badola Song: Khaike paan banaras wala Film: Don
Comments: Farhan: (Bihari accent) Phuntashtik performance. Tumko Scorewa (score) bhi achcha milega. your attempt was successful.
Malaika: Farhan has actually said everything. High energy performance; really enjoyed every bit of it.
Saroj: Who Shatrughan Sinha wala step kamaal ka tha. Whose idea was it? Anyways, Varun bahut badhiya dance and your expressions were brilliant.
At the Green Room: Rajeev: Choreography mein bahut saare film actors ke style humnein use kiya hai. Shatruji, Dharmendra, Jeetendra to name a few...
Scores: Malaika Arora Khan: 9 Farhan Akhtar: 10 Saroj Khan: 10
Sachin Pilgaonkar: Song: Jeene ke hai char Film: Mujhse Dosti Karogi
Comments: Malaika: "I love the song, loved your performance but frankly, Supriya was better today."
Farhan: "I guess there was a problem in choreography, because though your energy as always was high, the song fell flat in between and also your movements were restricted."
Saroj: "80's ke steps the, and with such a nice song, you should have danced with 2005 ka feel. Choreographer is to be blamed. Though your expressions and dance was good, it was an ok performance.
At the Green Room: Al/Mel: (On being asked how they choreographed the couple): "Choreography was together but for rehearsals me and Mel split with each one."
Scores: Malaika Arora Khan: 7 Farhan Akhtar: 7 Saroj Khan: 8
Manish Song: Eena meena deeka Film: Asha
Comments: Saroj: Good dance, but I don't know why choreographers make a spoof out of everything that's old. Kishore da danced on this seriously and not like Charlie Chaplin. It was more of acting.
Malaika: Yeh ek baat hai ki, hum comedy karte karte dance bhool jaate hai.
Farhan: You were funny and performed well, but should have concentrated more on the then genre of twists and rock n roll. Your choreographers haven't used you correctly.
At the Green Room: Danny/Savio/Kunjan: We didn't purposely put up a Charlie act; It just evolved into one as Manish was nervous backstage. Saroj: That is no excuse. Even if he was nervous backstage, he did not show that he performed. Accept your mistake.
Score: Malaika Arora Khan: 6 Farhan Akhtar: 5 Saroj Khan: 5
Delnaaz Paul Song: Jhoom jhoom jhoom zara Comments: Malaika: Good performance, good choreography and really good execution. As I always say there was little clumsiness in your performance but you didn't hold back. You took up the challenge and it was really nice.
Saroj: Great aggressive performance. But humein darr lag raha hai; please get out of that mood. Very good choreography and Delnaaz tum achcha naachte ho.
Farhan: Seriously ab toh mujhe bhi darr lagne laga hai. Very good performance, something we've never seen before.
At the Green Room: Shailesh: "Finally something worked for us. It's a team effort aur sabhi ko thank you karma chahoonga."
Scores: Malaika Arora Khan: 9 Farhan Akhtar: 9 Saroj Khan: 8
Parmeet Song: Koi kahe kehta rahey Film: Dil Chahta Hai
Comments: Malaika: (Goes on stage hugs Parmeet) one of my favorite movies is School Of Rock. Your performances in the school; boy outfit with kids reminded me of that and did full justice to it. I loved it every bit. Simply great!
Farhan: You reminded me of three things: My Koi kahey shoot. You reminded me of my school days You reminded me of my favorite band AC/DC (Angus young a band member wears such uniforms). A really high energy song but you rocked it!
Saroj: You are undoubtedly a really good performer; but aapka energy itna spread ho raha tha ki, the children dancing with you were also exceptional. Please call them on stage. They also deserve every bit of this.
At the Green Room: Archana: "Votes ka toh khatra hai hi; Lekin ab ek nai khatra hai 'Malaika.' Is Khatre se mere pati ko bachana hoga.... Jokes apart, I have never been so proud of Parmeet, inspite of being unwell, he gave the best performance of our stay."
Scores: Malaika Arora Khan: 9 Farhan Akhtar: 9 Saroj Khan: 10
