Today I saw on TV news that composer Naushad Ali has been admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Mumbai.

Naushad has been a very successful composer in Bollywood. He received the first Filmfwre award for music direction for the film Baiju Bawara. He was aslo the composer for Mughl-e-Azam.Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib sang in that movie.

Naushd was also a judge for Sa Re Ga Ma on many occasions.Once he was perturbed when the participants could not sing folk songs/gazals.

One on my personal favorites song composed by Naushad is"nain lad jaiehen to manwa ma kasak huibe kari"from the film Ganga Jamuna.

My prayes for Naushad Sahib

I pray for Naushad Sahib's health too. Naushad Sahib, the legendary music director of the yester years, gave us so many melodious songs. His greatest contribution probably was to bring Indian classical music into the film medium. Many of his compositions were inspired by Ragas. Film Baiju Bawara is an excellent example of this.

Another point that I would like to mention about him is that he composed music for some of the best known and most popular bhajans of hindi films -- O Duniya ke Rakhwale Sun Dard Bhare Mere Nale and Man Tadpat Hari Darshan ko Aaj--both from Baiju Bawara. These bhajans were written by Shakeel Badayuni, composed by Naushad and sung by Mohd Rafi -- all belongiing to different faith! -- a true example that music goes beyond the all boundaries....

Some of my favorite Naushad songs --

madhuban mein radhika nache re....kohinoor
mohabbat ki jhuti kahani pe roye....mughal-e-azam
mera pyar bhi tu hai, yeh bahar bhi tu hai... saathi
