I guess that is a well established fact now.
Recent is cocktail 2 being declared a success at 150cr budget though let alone 150 even 100cr domestic net seems very tough
Any trade experts should shed some light?

I'm not an expert, but after Covid, I noticed that more & more the worldwide gross collection got taken as a yardstick for success (and the verdicts of 'hit')... imo, it's just 'window-dressing'.

you are right
it started with sooryavansh then gangubai then bramastra..i mean these were all declared clean hits based on WW gross and tbh thats also the way HW functions..it makes sense..i feel 90% movies will flop if we still keep the domestic net yardstick
A film can easily fail to recover its budget through domestic ticket sales alone and still be officially declared a Hit. When box office trade analysts (like Taran Adarsh or Box Office India) declare a movie a "Hit," they aren't looking at the producer's total budget. They are looking at the Distributor’s Share.
Producers rarely release movies themselves. Instead, they sell the theatrical distribution rights to different territories (or a pan-India distributor) before release.
A movie is a "Hit" if the Distributor's Share of the domestic box office exceeds the price the distributor paid to buy the theatrical rights.
If a movie costs ₹100 crore to make, the producer might sell the domestic theatrical rights for just ₹50 crore because they expect to make the rest elsewhere. If the distributor’s share from theaters hits ₹55 crore, the movie is a theatrical Hit, even though the domestic box office only covered half of the production budget.

Hollywood usually gives a movie the hit verdict when it earns 3X its budget worldwide. But Bollywood declares it a hit when it makes the same amount as the budget, WW.
movie gets a good opening with decent reviews it outright declared a hit regarding of its huge budget
anyways its all corrupt now...no one cares anymore.
why so much emphasis on box-office collections, we should want good movies to succeed. Cocktail 2 is so much more enjoyable than the super successful Dhurandhar 1 and 2. It's a perfect summer movie, with good music, good locations and a satisfying ending....
