The simple fact still remains that nowhere in our mythology or history or any of the religious core texts our religion was ever called as Hinduism or our people as Hindu. The word Hindu is what we were described by those who neither understood us, nor respected our culture , considered us as "other" or "lesser" and wanted to deny how ancient and widespread our dharma was and how many different often opposing ideologies it accepted and embraced within it.

People often quote texts like Brihaspati agam, meru tantra or madhav digvijay to claim that Hindu word indeed was a part of our lingo ... Ab maine toh teeno hi texts padh nahi rakhe hain .. And there is also debate around the exact date of these verse - whether they were always there or were much later additions... Here it goes...

These random texts have no validity and no authenticity. These are just random books written by random people. Sanatan dharma has lakhs of books written on dharma , just like any religion has many books on religious texts. That doesn't mean they've any relevance.

Only core texts are authentic. They're the pillars of dharma. In none of them the word Hindu or Hinduism is even mentioned, forget identify as one.

Rest, all these books have no significance. Utterly irrelevant. Aise books har din koi na koi likh raha hai. Koi farq nehi padta inse.

If tomorrow I, a hindu, write a book on Hinduism and start calling it jhugli jhugli jhul jhula , would anyone accept it ?

By definition, the core texts of Dharma are - Vedas , Upanishads, Ramayan , Mahabharat, some of the oldest Puranas like Bhagvat Puran. They're equivalent to what Quran Sharif is for Islam and Holy Bible is for Christianity.

Rest everything, including all smritis like Manusmriti are basically extrapolations or religious texts or research and discussions, that any religious scholars can write. But only the above core texts are considered timeless as they're not written but revealed to the world by ancient sages. It is even said if Vedas get lost in time, again they'll be revealed to the sages of other times , for the benefit of mankind as the message and knowledge of Vedas can never disappear. They're tied to the creation of the world. They contain the secret of creation.

The whole story of some asura stealing Vedas and throwing it into the ocean , then Lord Vishnu recovering it , is actually symbolic , metaphorical. It signifies that time is like an ocean and Vedas can be lost in the depths of it temporarily but they can not be destroyed. They'll be recovered by divinity when they're needed again for creation.

This is why I'm glad Annamalai Anna didn't take part in TN election. Was watching his debate with Sashi Tharoor and was mesmerized with how polite yet erudite and eloquent he is . His talent is better utilized at a national level. I see in him the future PM of India after Modi Ji. A man who fiercely loves his state and it's people , yet also a true Indian and a true Sanatani . His love for his faith and nation strengthened him , made him a better person , not limiting him into putting others down in an assembly circus.

People get the government they deserve if the election process is fair .

Interestingly I agree with a lot of what you wrote (I think, I really would like a conversation with you without any bias and afterthoughts, just with honesty)... you express a lot of what contains my love for India even though it is not my country, my nation (and I'm still what I tell that I am). I think, one can feel love for a foreign country and foreign people... even unconditional one... because the love came through the people one got to know personally...

A thought about Vijay... I don't know him personally, but I very much liked the first thing of what I got to know he signed because it shows - to me - genuine care for the people: the banning of liquor stores close around places where they shouldn't be.

I think that wanting to be a good leader one should openly display a certain moral integrity and civic reponsibility in harmony with the constitution... and also demand the same from the people one got the task to lead (in the sense of guiding).

That's fine by me. I'm always ready and interested in engaging with anyone as long as they're not being condescending or fake . Even religious discussions should always be performed on the basis of logic. Infact, especially then.

LikeIve already mentioned if we're referring to our faith, Sanatan dharma or simply dharma is the correct term to use because this is the term used in our holy books. Dharma infact means so much more than just religion . It embodies the very idea of faith, philosophy, devotion and a certain way of living , which is the essence of our religion . This way of life is Sanatan Dharma , it's core. That's why there's no such thing as conversion in our religion. There's no need for it. If you practice our way of life you're automatically a person who belongs to Sanatan dharma.

People who practiced this faith are simply called dharmic or followers of dharma.

Hindustan is different. It's a word that is basically describing a country , limited by geo political boundaries. Any person living within that boundary can be called as Hindustani. I much much prefer the word Bharat . But it is what it is. These terminologies have been used since so long that they've been normalized in everyday language of common people.

Culturally, the word Bharat is actually far more appropriate and appealing since it is not limited by physical boundaries . Ancient Bharat had almost twice the size of today's India. So the geo political parameters were different. When we call the country as Bharat we're also remembering that Bharat is more than a country, it's a fountain of culture.

Hindus should be allowed to simply use the word dharma as their religious identity in all their official documents. More efficient, more respectful and closer to our legacy and truth.
