This is Match 52 - an opportunity for both the Royals and the Titans to secure a place (for the time being at least) alongside the table-topping Sunrisers Hyderabad, but also a contest that may make one of these teams' playoff run-in much more tedious than what would be deemed ideal.

The Royals, strangely enough, have also reverted to old and possibly unnerving habits. After blitzing their way to four successive wins at the start, they have stumbled. And while they have not quite gone off the rails, they may have spiralled enough to make their fans wonder if this is another one of those false dawns.

But tonight, they will have a chance to tweak that narrative. To show that this season could be different and that it could indeed be a throwback to those winning times. Just as the Titans hope to prolong a theme that has now become very much their own.
