The opening day of The WACA Test was action-packed! The new Pink ball moved around and posed a challenge throughout to the batters from both sides. But as the ball got older while India were batting, the surface looked quite easy-paced. India were a bit off-colour with the bat. Getting bowled out under 200 usually pushes you on the back foot. The Australian batters faced a stern test as the new ball hooped around under lights and tested their technique as well as grit. The hosts were off to a shaky start with the bat but the duo of Perry and Sutherland has steadied the ship for them. With the ball getting older and the surface also settling down, Day 2 will perhaps be the best day for batting. The Australians will be eager to capitalise on that and gain a healthy lead. But, if India pick up a couple of early wickets this morning, the hosts will be under pressure. It promises to be a riveting contest between bat and ball...

Hello everyone and welcome to day two from the WACA. Australia in control, but not by a massive amount after India made inroads under lights. But the home side bat deep. It's set to be a scorcher this afternoon until the sun goes down, so feels like a batting day.

At the dinner break, Australia are firmly in the driver’s seat at 310-8 with a commanding lead of 112 runs, thanks entirely to a batting masterclass from Annabel Sutherland. She was the undisputed star of the session, scoring a brilliant 129 to anchor the innings and take the game away from the visitors with pure class and composure. While India eventually managed to get her wicket, the breakthrough came late, and the tired Indian bowlers have since struggled to find more answers. Even the introduction of the new pink ball failed to provide the quick wickets India desperately needed, as the Australian lower order continued to frustrate a weary attack that looks short of ideas under the lights. With the lead already well over a hundred, India will need to find a second wind after the break to polish off the final two wickets before the deficit becomes too big to deal with. We will be back after the break in a bit.

Annabel Sutherland: Yeah, it was pretty good. It’s a lovely place to bat. Like I said, it’s pretty good fun. It was nice to have a bit of fun with Perry and with Mooney out there. Yeah, they’re pretty few and far between. I think that’s a bit of motivation, although you don’t really need any when you’re playing for Australia. Because they don’t come around that often, you really try to make the most of them and soak up as much time in the middle as you can. There you go, I didn’t know you knew that! But yeah, it’s obviously really nice having them there and having them in the crowd. It’s pretty cool. Hopefully we can get a few more runs on the board and then the ball’s got an important job to do. You never know what can happen under the lights, there’s still plenty in it, which is exciting for us.

Australia are firmly in the driver’s seat at the end of Day 2, leaving India in a desperate position at six wickets down and still trailing by 20 runs. While Pratika Rawal has stood firm as the only batter showing real resistance, the rest of the Indian lineup fell cheaply to loose shots and poor decision-making, failing to provide any meaningful support against a relentless attack. The standout performer with the ball was the debutant Lucy Hamilton, who claimed three crucial wickets to take her match tally to six, while Sutherland added two wickets to her earlier brilliant century and Darcie Brown chipped in with one. This dominant bowling performance followed a massive Australian first innings built on Sutherland’s hundred and a composed 76 from Ellyse Perry, which created a level of scoreboard pressure that the Indian top order simply could not handle under the lights. Unless the lower order can pull off something truly extraordinary tomorrow, which feels very unlikely given the current state of play, Australia is on the verge of a clinical victory. This would mean Alyssa Healy will lead her team out for the final time on Day 3 to celebrate a probable winning end to her legendary career as a captain. We might also see Healy bat again in her final international game if India manage to get into the lead. See you tomorrow.
