Hello and a warm welcome to our live coverage of the Group A clash between USA and Netherlands at Chepauk. USA have never beaten Netherlands so far with the Dutch winning all six games (three ODIs and three T20Is). If USA are to keep their minor Super 8 qualification hopes alive, they have to defy history tonight. It won’t be easy by any means but the fact that USA rose to prominence in the 2024 T20 World Cup and made the world take notice by making it to the Super 8 stage will certainly give them belief. USA were in an advantageous position when they had reduced India to 77/6 but a special knock from Suryakumar took the momentum away. Then their batting was found wanting against a disciplined bowling attack. They did show some fight against Pakistan in the run-chase but the inexperience at this level meant that they lost the crunch moments.

Earlier in the day, Zimbabwe pulled off a heist against Australia – that’s another prime example that cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties. Netherlands look much stronger on paper but they shouldn’t leave any room for complacency. It’s a night game so dew will play a role. Seven of the nine T20s at Chepauk since 2025 have been won by the chasing side, so the side chasing tonight will have a distinct advantage. Let's hope for a close contest!

Netherlands, on the other hand, almost pipped Pakistan but a late cameo from Faheem Ashraf broke their hearts. The Dutch bounced back strongly against Namibia soon after with their star all-rounder Bas de Leede putting on a show with the bat. Netherlands bat deep and possess a lot of options with the ball too and those factors make them a dangerous side. They are certainly favourites heading into this encounter.

Pitch Report | Alan Wilkins and Dale Steyn: "If you had to dream of the ideal conditions, they are tonight. It's gorgeous, 26 degrees, there's a little bit of wind, it's just fabulous. Importantly though, let's give you some dimensions. It's a long hit down the ground at 76 meters. And if I'm a right-handed bat on the offside, it's short, it's 63. Big boundary on my leg side at 70 meters. And the pockets behind me, well, they're about 63, 62. It's got a few cracks on it but it looks like a good pitch. And interestingly enough, tonight we've got a mixed soil pitch. So the first game they played on a red soil pitch just to our left over here, slightly more bounce, slightly more pace. The second game was a black soil pitch, slightly slower, a little bit lower. Tonight is a perfect mixture, red and black soil. So we'll see a little bit of pace, we'll see a little bit of bounce, but we'll also see a little bit of grip and turn for the seamers. It just depends on whether there's going to be any dew in the outfield. Right now, probably advantage Netherlands chasing, but all in all, a good pitch."

"Half way into group stages, amid all drama and chaos, we have only one upset and that to a big one."

Mustafa Moudi : "Watching Zimbabwe beat Australia earlier today making their Lead Over Australia 2-0 in T20 World Cups, I can feel sad that Netherlands is not in the Same Group as South Africa !!"

As for USA's Shadley van Schalkwyk, he's living the dream with consecutive four-wicket hauls against India and Pakistan. And all this coming 18 months after a rather less successful World Cup campaign. Firdose tells his tale of late-blooming redemption.

Bunty: "Half way into group stages, amid all drama and chaos, we have only one upset and that to a big one."

With a current run rate ~10 and losing only 2 wickets at the half way mark, USA is doing well. They should be able to add 100 more runs in the next 9 overs.
