It’s not something they think their target audience will accept or want to see. Somehow, people can readily accept a man’s actions being driven by lust, but not a woman’s. If a woman is obsessed with a man, she is either portrayed as being after his money or trying to possess him because she is a brat and cannot take NO for an answer. Other than this, I can’t recall a show offhand that confronts the harsh reality that a woman can be just as vile.
A man coming forward with an experience of sexual harassment is also very rare. Even the law provides emergency measures and awareness for sexual harassment toward women, not men. Agreed, 99% or make that 99.5% of women suffer, so it is a case of the majority, but very rarely do people think about the remaining 0.5%. The message rather clear: men are not supposed to be/ cannot be victims.
Expecting itv writers to show this honestly is futile. They can’t even maintain logic, let alone challenge a narrative their audience would rather not question.
Yeah. The subject is both bold and tricky to pull off.
Tricky in terms of execution and the actor’s involved too. Bollywood had Aitraaz and I daresay that PC was the make or break factor for that movie. Hard to pull off a character like hers.
The kind of sensitivity you would need to do this on TV especially with a man in his late 50s or early 60s as Mihir was at the beginning of the show is also not easy.
It’s easier to go with love than lust here.
Though they could have been more sophisticated than this and shown the urge to have Mihir wasn’t rooted in the fact that he was someone Noina was obsessed with since her college days but the fact that she was jealous of Tulsi. Noina had a successful career, a comfortable life and financially she was stable, independent and thriving but she was lonely and craved what money could never buy - love, companionship and family.
She didn’t want Mihir… she wanted to replace Tulsi and be with Mihir in the same place where she could have what Tulsi did - a huge family, a husband who loved and adored her, children and grandchildren to come home too and never feel lonely again.
Instead they went for this.
