Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted a triangular saffron flag called the Dharma Dhwaja today at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The flag is symbolic of the completion of the construction of the stunning temple, located on the banks of the Sarayu River. The Dhwajarohan ceremony falls on Vivah Panchami, which marks the marriage of Lord Ram and Sita, and is being celebrated today. In Hindu tradition, Dhwajarohan symbolises victory of dharma, divine presence and the formal activation of a sacred site.
The right-angled triangular flag measures 10 feet in height and 20 feet in length. It bears the image of a radiant sun, the symbol Om, and the Kovidara tree, inscribed on it. It was hoisted on a 191-foot-high shikhar of the temple built in the traditional Nagara architectural style.
The Kovidara tree is a hybrid of the Mandar and Parijat trees, created by Rishi Kashyap, and showcases ancient plant hybridisation. The sun symbol represents Lord Ram's Suryavansh lineage, and Om is the eternal spiritual sound. The flag has been made in Ahmedabad and, according to reports, it can withstand heavy winds, rain and sun. It took 25 days to produce using a single sturdy parachute-grade material that will ensure its longevity.
