What are the food stuff you have to avoid in order to lower raised cholesterol levels or lower the levels of LDL in blood .

Foods high in saturated and trans fats, like red meat, full-fat dairy, fried foods, and processed meats, can raise LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, while foods high in cholesterol, like organ meats and some shellfish, should be consumed in moderation.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of foods to limit or avoid:

Foods High in Saturated and Trans Fats:

  • Red Meat: Steak, beef roast, ribs, pork chops, and ground beef.
  • Processed Meats: Hot dogs, sausage, bacon, and deli meats.
  • Full-Fat Dairy: Whole milk, butter, full-fat cheese, and cream.
  • Fried Foods: French fries, fried chicken, and other deep-fried items.
  • Baked Goods and Sweets: Cookies, cakes, doughnuts, and pastries.
  • Tropical Oils: Palm oil and coconut oil.
  • Trans Fats: Found in many processed and fried foods.

Foods High in Cholesterol:

  • Organ Meats: Liver, kidney, and heart.

  • Shellfish: Shrimp, lobster, crab, and some other types of shellfish.
  • Egg Yolks: While eggs themselves are a good source of nutrients, the cholesterol is primarily found in the yolk.

I’m just avoiding all the fried food, buttery things, and all that. Trying to eat a bit cleaner these days.

Honestly, cholesterol is one of those things we don’t really think about until the doctor points it out in a report. But it quietly plays a big role in heart health. When cholesterol levels get too high - especially LDL (the “bad” one) - it can start sticking to the walls of our arteries. Over time, this builds up like layers of traffic jams inside our blood vessels, making it harder for blood to flow. In India, where our diets can be rich in fried snacks, sweets, and ghee, plus the fact that many of us lead sedentary lifestyles, the risk gets even higher. The scary part is, you don’t really “feel” high cholesterol - it works silently. That’s why regular check-ups, eating more home-cooked, balanced meals, and adding some daily physical activity (even a brisk walk) can go a long way in protecting the heart. What do you all think? Have you or someone you know seen improvements in heart health after managing cholesterol levels?
