But I also maintain that we should alternate themed months with non-themed months. It'd feel too monotonous otherwise. The breaks would also let us come back to the OG spirit of the challenge, of reading whatever we want and simply logging it 😌❤️
Speaking of whimsical themes, I was thinking of this sort of alternative to a drinking game - we did this for one of my online book club read alongs. We listed out some common tropes / phrases / actions we usually come across in romances - hero puts on grey sweatpants, someone releases a breath they didn’t know they’d been holding , he tucks a strand of her hair behind her ear, she wears his T-shirt/ sweatshirt etc etc. We would ring a bell / post a gif on the chat (whoever spotted it first). It was fun.
Maybe we can do something like that - read what you want to but everytime someone brings up something in the book (maybe Food?), post a gif in the thread along with the relevant line. Could be fun And it’s not really a restrictive theme - everyone reads what they want to. Just makes it fun and engaging

Mujhe samajh nahi aaya kuch par parh ke bohat acha laga
From this list, fantasy is my favourite and I'd really love if we could have a month based on that theme
I also like TV/movie adaptations as a theme bcz it offers the most versatility across genres (contemporary, historical, mythology, horror, thrillers, fantasy, sci-fi, classics etc)
I would also like to see a mythology themed month sometime. We can also include folktales and fairytale retellings in that category, I already know I'd love that month sm 😍😍
We could also have more whimsical themes like One word Titles, Two word titles, Books with ___ colour in the cover, Set in a Place which has one of the seven wonders of the world, Child protagonist, Features a Kidnapping etc.
Kidnapping is a big yes for me. I can go with that theme every month.

Ooh this sounds fun! We can each have a funny gif that we keep posting every time we find that word/phrase/trope happening
I have some suggestions
Nape
Eyes darkened
Small of her back
Tucked a strand of hair
Growled
Whispered in her ears
I think I'll be posting that gif every few minutes
This is for us Romance geeks

We should have something more inclusive and generic - things that we may come across in any sort of book (any genre I mean)
Some examples:
Traveling (someone goes somewhere using any form of transportation)
Food (someone cooks/ eats/ drinks something)
Fashion (someone's clothes are described)
stuff like that...
We pick one of course.

We can make it for thrillers / crime books too
Character wakes up from a nightmare in a cold sweat.
Them remembering something sinister / they get a premonition of sorts
Dreams or flashbacks reveal a disturbing hidden truth — but only in pieces.
He's been dead for hours ( when it comes to crime thrillers )

Lols, I keep like, a tally of overused tropes/phrases. When I was listening to Zodiac Academy, I was so tempted to go onto KU and search up a bunch of words just to see exactly how many times they were used. I swear, the word 'fissure' was used in three consecutive sentences.

This sounds so fun and something we should definitely try..I'm in..
Yeah but then there will be way too many phrases/ events to keep track of. Maybe something more generic (that happens across all genres) will work better but I’m open to suggestionsOriginally posted by: missFiesty_69
