Why was Munnawar on the show today? Made no sense.
So everybody got an ingredient they have struggled with in the past, and I must say they were all fantastic ingredients to cook with. I mean this clearly didnโt seem like a challenge for them.
1. Gaurav had ginger - he made a plum and ginger sauce topped with orange curd, that then had a whole wheat cake flavored with ginger. His pavlova was flavored with ginger as was the salted chocolate caramel. He made a chocolate bark to support the pavlova. Even the tuille had ginger flavour. Honestly, I love the flavour of ginger in desserts. So it sounded delicious. Of course we all know it looked exquisite. It was obviously the best dish of the day.
2. Faisu got cream cheese and he made a cheesecake with passion fruit compote. And added a sunflower topping. I wish he had colored the sunflower to make it look more like one. I didnโt like the presentation of his dish (except the flower), the chocolate coating on his dish was uneven. Also, it didnโt sound like a very strong dish. He even had some pistachios in his dish but I didnโt understand where. Overall a weak dish. Though the judges praised everyone.
Nikki got crab. She had a sob story for even that. She made pandan flavored rice with a few other elements and a black pepper crab Singapore style. Iโd read how her plating was bad, it was ok until the foam. But a very weak dish for the finale week. We make black pepper crab very often at home, itโs clearly an easy dish to make.
Rajiv got cherries. Heโs a fool. He decided that he wanted to make savoury today because everyone thinks he is a dessert specialist. But he is better at desserts and nothing wrong with that. Coming to the last leg, do what you are good at. Even Gaurav is making only desserts because thatโs his strength. Nikki never makes desserts because thatโs her weakness. And then when you know youโve gotten cherries, why be adamant on making savoury? Cherrys because of their tartness can be used well in savoury too. He made a savoury cheesecake - which sounded so good. But it wasnโt all that great.
Nikki got chillies. She made a cheung fun with a prawn stuffing and served with a sol kadhi broth. She gave it Maharashtrian flavours. I can imagine why it worked. Cheung fun is basically rice flour wrappers with a stuffing. I wasnโt excited about the Maharashtrian flavours, because I really like cheung fun as it is. But her dish looked beautiful, and apparently tasted good too.
Iโd really have liked to see them work with elements that arenโt easy - wasabi, natto, stinky tofu, something like that. But I guess weโll have to wait for a season of non celebrities for that.
