Stop Calling Neil a Green Flag – He’s Not 😔🥲

Okay so this is my post and honestly, I agree with what many are saying. [ This is just my take. If this post spoils your mood or you don’t vibe with it, feel free to skip the thread don't read. No hard feelings 🥲.]

But I really need to say—Neil’s character is deeply problematic. I don’t understand how people defend him by saying, “At least he’s a good guy, Teju should just say yes because he’ll never love Juhi anyway.” Like—what kind of logic is that?

The core issue is simple: Teju doesn’t like him. She doesn’t want to marry him. That should be enough. If the show had portrayed Neil as a red flag, maybe people wouldn’t feel this irritated. But the problem is—they constantly paint him as a “green flag guy”, and that makes his behavior even worse.

I don't get the excuse “his parents are manipulative” or “they don’t let him speak,” but that doesn't justify his actions. So That mean he should go chasing after the next girl he sees—especially one who clearly said she doesn’t want to marry him in the first place. Obsession isn't love, and it’s definitely not a sign of strength.

Honestly, I could rant forever about how problematic this character is. And the fact that more than half the viewers feel disconnected from him says a lot. It’s not just one or two people—it’s the majority.

Also, it’s true online views don't matter only trp aunties —it also true online fans usually defend their leads no matter how flawed they are. But this is the first time I’ve seen even online audiences feel icky and uncomfortable with how a lead is written. If that’s the reaction, then clearly something is wrong with the character design and writing.

What shocks me the most is itv ruin a character. Usually, it takes atleast 6 months to ruin fl or ml, but Neil? They turned him from a green flag to full-on ick in just 2 months🤡💀. And people still defend him saying, “At least he never crossed personal boundaries” — like okay? Yeah He’s been all over teju to marry him no *touching offcourse offcourse*

He’s out here ready to marry her the second Juhi's gone, who care if Teju rejected him twice her opinion don't matter anyway because neil such a good lover boy who is victim of his parents. Now he gonna love-bombing her, in the name of “support” and “being there for her,” and fans will be like, “aww poor Neil, Teju is so cold, why can’t she see how much he loves her?” Like, hell with her own choices and her life I guess, right?

It’s so tone-deaf I can’t even. Im so dead 💀😑

IKR he was lowkey celebrating happy like gayi musibat the moment Juhi backed off. Whole time Neil was tryna mentally break her down so she back off, like disrespecting her own damn house. But that flop plan didn’t even work. So now Neil is like chance pe dance karle with teju 🤸🏻‍♀️🕺🏻

Grey male leads who do forced marriage for revenge and other reasons make more sense than this green flag character who is doing forced marriage just because he loves the girl. Ladki ka consent gaye baad meih.

Exactly! That’s what I’ve been saying — majority of viewers wouldn’t have had a problem if they showed him as a red flag or grey-shade guy from the beginning. People would've been like, “Yeah, we saw this coming, he’s gonna get her by hook or crook.”

But here’s the issue — they keep pushing him as this green flag ideal man, while he’s literally taking advantage of the FL’s vulnerable situation. She literally told him on the mandap that she doesn’t want to marry him, and this man just stood there smiling like, “Doesn’t matter, I’ll marry you anyway.”

Consent? Respect? Nah, instead they want us to think it’s true love because he’s been “waiting” and “loving” her all this time. Now he gonna love-bomb her like some creep, till she gives in. And watch—when she finally breaks and 'falls for him,' they’ll call it 'true love. Such a bad writing ng bad show they were copying.

I get it’s itv and fantasy, but the logic is wild. Fl is expected to fall for him just because he kept forcing the idea of marriage and “respecting” her by not respecting her choice? How does that even make sense?

Exactly I absolutely hated how he lowkey manipulated Juhi and left no other situation for her rather than running away from her own wedding. And he made Juhi the villain in front of whole family and society. And somehow is the green flag and green forest. True that, ITV audience has always loved a diehard loverboy, but does being a loverboy means you need to think about only you and your beloved while taking others to their destruction without feeling a single percent of guilty? Everyone has a different version of how a protagonist should be. For me, a protagonist should be a decent (while not perfect) human being who's at least sensitive to others' plight and Neil failed in that department massively. As you've said, if they had presented Neil as a flawed antihero like RK in Madhubala, it'd have been easier to digest. But Neil as a green flag guy would give anyone green flag phobia.

💯% I agree with everything you said here plus on ghum edt too. Many said it’s Juhi’s fault because she knows Neil doesn’t love her, so she should just back out of the marriage. But how is it not Neil’s fault when Teju has clearly said she doesn’t want to marry him, and he’s still sitting there smiling like a creep? But nooo, Neil is a “pure soul,” a “victim of his parents,” and just because Teju’s dad likes him, he suddenly gets a free pass to be obsessed and feel entitled to marry her?

Bro, this logic is peak delusion. Neil is just a watered-down Yuvraj from Rishta. Both Neil and Yuvraj are obsessed with a woman who doesn’t love them back and both are trying to force their way into their lives. The only difference? Yuvraj planned a kidnapping, Neil just sits with that puppy face energy pretending to be a bechara while still doing everything to take advantage of Teju's vulnerable situation.

And the wildest part? Teju is labeled cold and rude just because she doesn’t love him back, and Juhi, who’s been disrespected and mentally broken, is expected to walk away silently is also bad. But somehow, Neil is the innocent king in this story? The hypocrisy is real. A flawed, grey character is better > this so-called green flag Neil any day. At least the grey ones own their flaws and don’t walk around with a fake halo. Neil is literally the definition of fake nice guy—acting all soft-spoken, glasses-wearing, “bhola” look, but the moment someone says no, he starts acting entitled af.

How is he a green flag when he doesn’t even respect Teju’s consent or her decisions? He forces himself into her life, and then expects her to magically fall in love with him?

Just because a character looks soft doesn’t mean he’s a good person. Green flag isn’t about vibes, it’s about actions—and Neil’s actions scream self-obsessed, "my way or the highway" energy. People really out here calling that a green flag? Be serious.

Lmao even twitter fd lost hope.

Ek toh I don't write paras and I wrote three paras here and it just vanished.

Anyway, just wanted to add that I saw all wedding episodes back to back and WTH is this Neil ya smiley37

The girl is clearing rejecting you, she is disappointed and disgusted also but this man is tone deaf. He is smiling like a Cheshire Cat. He even urged her to sing. Bro WTF smiley37

Neil is really tone deaf. You got married to your love, great but the woman doesn’t love you. Stop ignoring her feelings. He can be civil but nahi bhai must be thinking about boinking her already.
