Basically, the film will end up on Netflix or another streaming platform a few weeks after its theatrical release anyway.
It’s not like he said anything surprising. The rise of OTT, especially in India, is a major reason the box office isn’t performing like it used to. It’s a tough time for producers, some are relying on corporate bookings, while others have had to shut down. Snow White flopped but Wicked worked big time. Strange times. Maybe in a few years, they’ll figure out a way to adapt? Maybe start making films that truly need the big-screen experience? Who knows, art always finds a way. Let’s see.
He has mentioned this before Laal Singh Chadda release.
The issue is if the film becomes flop then the OTT platform will pay less for it.
So makers try to sell it before the film releases.
And if the movie comes n OTT after 6-7 months, ppl may not even see it. It will be forgotten.
OTT also want to show recent, new and fresh content. And ppl will remember the movie soon after its theatrical release and promotions.
What he is saying is absolutely true. Had said that long back that I would go to theatres for movies only if its fantasy, a larger than life or what we call ‘a big screen experience’.
Otherwise why not watch it from the comfort of my home where i can process my emotions, display them openly, rewatch the parts I like, skip what I don’t. Would surely prefer OTT for most of the movies
Going to the movies is a social event…TV and OTT are supporting a more individual lifestyle and also makes people keeping at home…
Instead of making a social event more affordable and popular the contrary happens…and again it’s money which is the ruling force… sad
He should be more concerned about why his marriages aren't succeeding
Ridiculous
He already tried bypassing this by signing a deal with OTT site which released LSC after 8 months on their streaming platform, still it was a disaster
So how can he say that this is the issue? He just tries to sound smart but is extremely foolish
It's the theatre's that are struggling, not the film-makers. The film-makers are still making their money, just from a different platform. Theatre's could be obsolete in another 20 years if the trend continues and this is around the world.

8 weeks toh zyada bol gaya Aamir. OTT platforms strong-arm you to release it on their platforms within 3 weeks. The sooner you release it, the more money you get. It's very tempting for the producers to go straight to OTT as well. Theatrical releases soon might only be for Big Ticket releases.
This might actually be a good thing for the artistic side of Bollywood as OTT is a lot more unconfined both morally(no Censor) & financially.
I have been on this for a decade now right when the producers were signing lucrative tv and OTT deals prior to the movie's release. Those days it was 2 to 3 month window between theatrical and TV/OTT release for a successful movie. This practise is bound to have a direct impact on theatres which in turn will have a ripple effect on the entire movie industry from the way it functions, moviemaking to the movie made etc. The small and medium budget movies are the most affected.
A movie outing today is really expensive. Why would anyone pay for such expensive tickets when they know that within few weeks they can see it on OTT even if it is a great movie.
Salman wanted to do the remake of that Italian film on which Sitaare Zameen par had been made, he share this with Aamir. Instead of leaving it...
