Thanks for sharing the Telugu version, Putija. I think I've heard this before. His accent may have been off ... he's a Punjabi and even some MDs did not use him bcos they felt he had too much 'Punjabiyat' in his tone ... but whatever the case, you cannot deny the sincerity in his singing. That inner goodness reflects in it every time and pierces the heart straight.Originally posted by: PutijaChalhov
Which was also sung by Mohammad Rafi in Telugu

Very popular song of Mohammad Rafi S Janaki in Telugu
Nice n beautiful singing of rafi saheb n s janaki
The lines...... Ham bhi mile the kabhi jamuna kinaare Raadha kishan the kabhi naam hamaare Fir wo muraliya, fir wo paayaliya Fir wahi sangeet re............... More nostalgic in Hindi version only compare to telugu rhythm changed in Telugu version
Okanaadu kalisamu yamuna teeramu lo... Radha krishna mana perlu aa yugamulo..... Malli aa murali.. malli aa gajjelu.. malli ade sangeeeeetamu............. Aaja tujhko pukaare mere geet re
Thanks, Mri. In this increasingly shallow world where everything is about 'instant gratification', few things have that 'thehraav' that I've begun to cherish more and more and one of the top is Rafi sahab's voice. I may be old school (I know I'm more of an outlier), but I couldn't not have this thread on a such a significant milestone year for someone who has been so influential for modern day music and singers.Originally posted by: minakrish
What a beautiful thread for such a legendary singer.
Well done, Ri!
There can only ever be one Mohammad Rafi.
Thanks for reading and chiming in...do share your favorite Rafi songs too!
Thank you for the comment. Yes, a school in himself, a reference book - whatever you want to call him - the fact remains that he was the one and only. No one like him and no one will ever be...Originally posted by: allizzwell
Rafisaab - the best gift to Bollywood, a divine, soulful and mesmerising voice. A school in himself, an inspiration to all music lovers.
A beautiful thread
All his renditions have an unique flavour, something to learn from...still...the one which stands out for me is....this one...
You're lucky to be able to pick a favorite ... I never can! I had a hard time picking songs for those polls and I know I left several of my favorites out. And each time I listen to him, I discover a new nuance, a new feeling.
But yes, Ek haseen shaam ko - I rate as one of his best. Amazing rendition!
Thank you for sharing that rare song, Subha..and yes, you're so right. These singers would imbue so much feeling into their singing. When Rafi sahab sings, you know exactly what the character is trying to convey on screen. That was his 'voice acting', he did half the work for the on-screen actor!Originally posted by: Life_Is_Dutiful
This is a beautiful thread on Rafi ji. Loved reading each and every post of yours.
You put lot of effort on making this thread.
One thing I wanna say about Rafi ji is whenever I listen to his songs is he actually gets lost in the song. If it's a romantic song, his voice turns romantic. If it's a sad song, his voice turns sad. It's as if he is imagining himself in the situation of that movie character he is singing for. He imagines himself in pain or in love etc etc.
Even Kishore Kumar and Mukesh also used to be like him. Their voices had that pain, that emotions. They were not singing just for the sake of singing. All these singers, Kishore, Rafi, Mukesh used to put their heart and soul into their songs. This is something which is lacking in today's singers. Just recently I was listening to a song which was supposed to be a sad one but the way the singer was singing it as if she was on cloud nine.
I know music appreciation is entirely subjective and not taking any props away from musicians and singers in modern times, but the Golden era is called that for a reason. There is an element of shallowness that comes in with the increasing use of technology and auto-tune (you see that with the rampant use of AI these days - don't get me started on THAT topic ), that is refreshingly absent in the songs those days. Imagine the number of rehearsals and takes these people had to go through to get it just right - and every musician had to be perfect along with them too! One tiny mistake and you had to redo it from the start. That calls for professionalism and talent of a very high order.
Thanks, Madhu. It comes straight from the heart .. so wasn't that difficult to find the words, because I just had to write what I felt. Yes, a lot has been written about his range and versatility - I hope this thread reminds everyone of what he was truly capable of.Originally posted by: Viswasruti
It is a well presented thread, Lizzie.
He deserves all the praise for his versatility and acoustic talents. With his intensely emotional voice, he constantly brought passion to every lyric. One of the best vocalists of all time, who impacted numerous singers over the years.
Rafi's voice spanned a wide range, from fast-paced numbers to ballads, patriotic songs to romantic songs, and qawwalis to ghazals. With an explosive vocal turn that floats above the music, Rafi's singing was a combination of technique and emotion.
Rafi's voice was an ethereal marvel that could handle anything from romantic songs to melancholy laments.
Thank you, Shreya. Yep, a 100 years of him and nearly half a century of not having him among us anymore, still his voice resonates. That's real impact...Originally posted by: Minionite
Wow Riya such a well-done thread! There can only ever be one Mohd Rafi and I cannot believe it's been 100 years of him already!
Thank you, Shibz. I just wrote what I truly felt. Things have become too easy these days and AI is just making people lazier... no original thoughts coming in anymoreOriginally posted by: oh_nakhrewaali
This thread is just🤌🏻 Your threads always are so informative and feel so heartfelt (in this world of AI)💗

Rafi Sahab is truly the GOAT!
