I will call Jafaa message giving only but it did wonders for its theme

Same way as ZPKB and QeZ ,Manjogi and Nadaan

These are not masala based dramas

Bas dark cinematography or village locations doesn't make a drama social or caused based

Neither MJ nor Nadaan were village based. Nadaan doesnt even have a dark filter on. I consider Jafaa as a commercial success.

Budget are not the main thing but a commercial drama generally has a high-budget production with glossy visuals, lavish sets, and appealing costumes. They focuses on aesthetics that enhance the entertainment value. Which is true for Jafaa, QeJ

While dramas like MJ, Zard, Nadaan employs realistic settings and costumes to emphasize authenticity. The visuals are secondary to the message, using minimalism or symbolism to support the narrative.

Most are a blend of the two, like Zindagi Gulzar Hai, which had romance with commentary on gender roles and class disparity.

Hassan called it preachy, it might lack in entertainment. But it still is Momina duraid production, its not same as Nadaan, which if you check out is dealing with peer babas/acid use. Urban locale but low budget.

They belong to different categories of social dramas. MJ & Nadan belong to one category, low budget & dark themes. Zard had a fun way of dealing with social issues although the Nasreen track was sad. Qej is another category. It’s a high budget drama but they will highlight some social evils as well with Nashwa’s journey of justice against them. It’s kinda commercialised.

The thing is being messaged based on social doesn't mean a show won't have trp which I see many people saying here.

In that sense all of the mentioned drama should have trp

Merri Zaat Zara was kind of spiritual and karma story but it was highest trp getter for long time

For views global audience are less likely to watch any message based drama be it social ,village based or commercialized like QeZ, people watch drama for entertainment quotient mainly for romantic drama

The ZPKB was a perfect blend it has good romance, chemistry too but Hum did not publicise it well ,they could have used IM to promote it's teasers

Only Jaffa seems exception there rest of the dramas can't get more than 7M views

If the entertainment quotient is there people will watch nonetheless. Some times even commercial dramas don’t fare well but social dramas done well grab attention of masses.

MZZBN was a very popular novel of Umera Ahmed. It was bound to do well in Pak at least.

Agree about Zard. It should have been promoted well. Kashf Foundation had to keep press meet themselves to promote it. Hum is very bad at promoting its dramas.

I have heard Hum is chindi , doesn't pay that well hence many actors don't work with Hum

Sultana Sidiqui was talking about actors moving to new channels because they pay them more so it might be true. I think Green pays its actors well.

Hum is notorious for not paying actors on time. Latka ke rakh dete hain.

Don't know if they pay less or not though.
