I was wondering if this clash is similar to Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani. That too was festival weekend.

The difference is that though it was a clash with a superstar film ,both had BB directors and similar budgets.

BM opened at 12 cr and LTT of 184 cr (HIT)

DW opened at 20 cr and LTT of 140 cr (SEMI HIT)

How? Bramhastra (Budget 410cr, WWBO collection 431cr) was declared a hit, and that was the final collection.

Aren't movie clashes in festive seasons usual in Hindi Cinema? (and not only there)

To me, the clashes BB3/SA are different from BM/Dilwale in terms of motivation latter clearly having the goal to harm SRK's reputation (starting with MNIK and Ra.One), especially because of not catering to the ruling party's politics through his take on growing intolerance in India in the Barkha Dutt interview.

BM's producer was Eros Entertainment (Lulla) who wasn't on good terms with SRK after Ra.One (won't detail the reasons here). The releases of BM and Dilwale had been announced for Christmas time... BM originally (in their announcement) was scheduled for 25th December, so Dilwale got scheduled to 18th of December...BM's trailer then showed the same date (18th of Dec).

Singham again had been announced for Independance Day, but the shooting didn't get finished in time, so SA was shifted to Diwali. BB3's original release date already had been the 1st of Nov).

I think, everyone can imagine how much praise BM got and how much criticism Dilwale faced...

Bajirao Mastani (Sacnilk):

India Net Collection ₹ 184.30 Cr ...... Worldwide Collection ₹ 362.00 Cr

Budget: ₹ 145.00 Cr.... Verdict = Hit

Dilwale (Sacnilk):

India Net Collection ₹ 148.42 Cr .... Worldwide Collection ₹ 388.00 Cr

Budget: ₹ 165.00 Cr.... Verdict = Average

The overseas numbers (hardly touched by Indian politics) give a fairer picture of the movies's success, I think (Dilwale ₹ 176.00 Cr. / BM ₹ 99.00 Cr)

They started to take the worldwide (gross) collection into consideration whereas the Indian boxoffice former only gave verdicts based on the India/Hindi nett collection. Now, it seems to have become a trend to base the boxoffice-verdict either on the ww-gross-collection or on the India nett collection according to the impression one will give.

We all know that Brahmastra was far away from becoming a hit respective to the budget.
