Taj Mahal irks animal activists By IndiaFM News Bureau, November 15, 2005 - 03:43 IST Akbar Khan's ambitious 80 crore project which will release on November 18th, finds itself in the midst of a controversy. From the promos itself, the film looks visually stunning with many horses and camels used, apart from the eye-catching sets and costumes. Now, the NGO People in Defence of Animals allege that Khan did not get the necessary permission from the Animal Welfare Board before using the horses and camels. The NGO threatens to halt the release of the film. But Akbar Khan justifies his stand by stating that the animals were obtained by licensed owners who provide animals for shooting, frequently. It is said, that these animals are ill treated whilst shooting. The NGO is adamant and will take the necessary action against the producers of the film.
