Ok so everyone is all praises about shows which were made in the 90's. For a change I'll be posting about 2 of the shows which does not deserve this praise for being "ahead of it's time" or "so progressive"

First is Aashiqui...ok i know that no one must've heard about this show but the comments section is full of praises for this show, I'll post the link for the first episode after I'm done typing about it

So this show aired in Zee tv in 1999 according to IMDB

I must admit that the first episode was good...the FL goes for a meeting on the day of her engagement (engagement is on the evening of the same day) so i thought that this show would be about a career oriented woman...oh my i was sooo wrong (more about that later)

So the engagement happens and the fiance gets the news that he got a job in USA and wants the FL to move to the states with him after the wedding , she denies stating that she loves India and her buisness so she won't leave and they break up right at the engagement hall in the most aimicable way possible and by this time i got fooled that this show was genuinely good so i continued watching , that family has 3 sisters , the elder sister is 20 yrs older than the FL and her sister and this lady's husband left her and married someone else sometime during the 70's but she still wears the mangalsutra and sindoor for him (yikes) and there is this other guy who is in love with her for 20 years but never had the courage to tell her (played by Mukesh - Vibhishan of Sagar Ramayan)

The next day these three sisters go to a wedding where they bump into the ML and his brother and the elder sister sees her ex husband (Arun Govil from Ramayan) who asks her about the mangalsutra and the sindoor thing and she gives the bharatiya naari answer...the FL., her sister , the ML and his brother continue to oogle at each other and some cheap rip off bollywood song plays in the background

In the next episode we learn that the elder sister's ex husband's wife died 10 years ago and he is in a steady relationship with a much younger woman for 10 years and now he has developed a soft corner for his ex wife for some reason....all this shit happens in two and a half episodes and i was tired by this point and realised that this show was useless so decided to watch the last 6 episodes of the show to see how this shit ends (show has 66 epsidoes)

So the FL and her sis apparently got married to the ML and her brother...enter crazy mother in law , all shenanigans begin , both sisters pregnant at the same time....FL has a stillborn baby and the younger sister gives away her baby (this was resolved in a couple of episodes when the FL finds out and gives the baby back) (Ekta kapoor got influenced by this show i guess)

Coming to the Elder sister , the dude who loves her , her ex husband his GF ;

Ex husband wants to get back with the ex wife (they almost get married) but GF is pregnant for the 3rd time and he forces her for an abortion , the mahaan ex wife finds out about it , shames the ex husband , the person who has been simping her for all these years seizes the opportunity and proposes to her and she readily accepts. The ex husband's GF leaves him saying that he is an a**hole (finally!) And his children from his second wife hate him so he bequeaths them his property and swallows a bunch of sleeping pills and calls everyone to his deathbead , apologises and dies

No this shit does not deserve to be called as a show which is ahead of it's time

This show had lots of familliar faces ;

One recurring actor from CID old episodes played the FL's dad

Vibhishan from Ramayan

Ram from Ramayan (Arun Govil's character must be the inspiration behind Shantiprasad Mahajan i guess)

FIL from Yes boss comedy show

Vidur uncle from Vanshaj he only appeared in an episode

And the FL is Kaveri Poddar from YRKKH season 4(this is for Suyash Bhai and Palak i hope they atleast read this post until this part)

I'm pretty sure most of you would've heard of it or read the praises about this show in random articles , reddit or whatever , that's how i found this show and gave it a try during lockdown it's another zee tv show which aired from 1996 : Hasratein

This show glorifies EMA to such an extent that it's nauseating and this is THE MOST DISGUSTING SHOW THAT I'VE WATCHED

The FL's mom left her dad for a rich dude when she was a child and she grew up to hate her mom (she lived with her bua and phufa) and she had no problems in cheating on her husband when she got married

So a goalless 10th pass "simple" girl marries a college professor and the first redflag is when the FL sees that the professor lives in a single bedroom and looks down on him makes him to live in her house (which isn't wrong) then she applies for a job , while the husband being an old fashioned guy is unhappy but he hides it well for her happiness and she goes for work and gradually falls for her boss who is a married man with 2 children and has no problem with having an affair with her (he starts hitting on her)

The legal marital relationships faces strain and the FL's husband tries his best to save the marriage and wanting his marriage to work but the FL is such a horrible POS that she says to them that they are fine when her husband says that she's getting distant from him but in the next 6 episodes she hugs her boss saying that she is in a loveless marriage and wants to be with him....being in an unhappy marriage is and wanting to get out of it is fine but they could've ended their marriages before starting their despicable affair....she constantly lies to her husband but is miffed at him when she spots him following her once (the husband wasn't a saint but he was miles better than the sociopathic ML and FL....These two are the actual villians of the show ffs)

The ML is another jerk

The show is 208 episodes long but YT only has 90 episodes and someone posted about how the show ends and it's the worst shit ever ; the husband leaves her with their som the ML and FL never get married but have a child out of wedlock and then he gets into an accident sustains brain injury and his leagal wife takes him to the US for treatment , so at last the FL just becomes a doormat , that is justice served for her adultery , she deserves to be alone......you know what I'll post some links from our site itself read the plot on your own ...I've never seen a more disgusting show being lauded as "ahead of it's time" EMA is progressive all of a sudden? That too the FL knows how the cheated party feels due to the failed relationship of her parents and yet she doesn't bat an eyelid to cheat on her husband...this show glorified EMA like it's nobody's business , no other show could come close (maybe Radhakrishnan could come close i guess)

But not all the YT comments are moronic , most of them called out the bullshit FL and ML and felt bad for the FL's husband and ML's wife characters who were the only likeable characters in the show

Shefali shah (the connessieur of lady who has always played strong roles played the FL after the 2nd actress got replaced and has called this show "ahead of it's time and bold" LOL Alpviram was bold cause it handled a sensitive issue but the show was about r*pe and it was never labelled as progressive or ahead of it's time cause how can anyone call a show about r*pe to be ahead of it's time? Same rule applies here as well , adultery is not progressive , i wouldn't have had a problem with the show if the leads would've just been honest with their partners , gotten divorced and then dated / married or whatever , the lying and the cheating was one of the most disgusting things in this show)

Some comments takes digs at the husband's character who had a friend with "loose character" with multiple husbands and commented about his non existent double standards about how he can have a friend like that but wants a perfect wife...LOL he didn't have the affiar and he has called out his friend's behaviour and said that he didn't like that about her (but didn't s**t shame her as well) the friend Mansi is played by Ketki dave (baa from Pushpa impossible)

This show is probably the only show where i would wholeheartedly bash the FL and ML cause they deserve it

I watched this show during lockdown and forgot about it , then i watched Kuch reet jagat ki aisi hai (dowry show) and noticed that the father in law character looks and sounds too familliar and googled about him yesterday , turns out he played the professor in this show....all the PTSD from Hasratein came flooding back and i had to post about it somewhere to get it off my chest

Oh and i have savrd the most disgusting part of this show for the last point (i didn't post this at first cause i didn't want you guys to close your tabs after reading it)

For a couple of episodes the Phufa ji is shown as a creep where he oogles at the FL and someone tells his wife that the Phufa and the FL are in an incestuous relationship (i swear I'm not making this shit up , watch episode 20 and 21 of Hasratein in Youtube)

The Bua confronts the FL in ep 21 who is scandalized...this happens in the first 10 mins and the writers literally forget about it for the rest of the show and the rest of the episode is about the professor seeing the FL and going to his house to say that he likes her.....

I'm like ; EW EW EW EW EW EW EW E W EW

WHAT THE FUKKK? .someone in the comments section commented rightly ; "this is one weird family" indeed it is....

Now please tell me are these shows really worthy of being labelled the most progressive show ever or praised that it's ahead of it's time?

If this show were to be made today , this will be trolled and cancelled before it even begins it's main storyline (idk how this didn't get cancelled for ep 20 and 21) even Ekta's show didn't give off creepy incest hints (or did it? Idk) the people in the comments section of episode 90 are lammenting that the rest of the episodes aren't uploaded....good! I say let them delete these 90 episodes from Youtube as well so that this show is erased from the collective menory of the audience

But that would be unfair to the actors who played these characters so well , this show put some now popular actors on the map but that doesn't overshadow the crappy script of this show

People should take off their nostalgia googles when they're analysing this show...then they will realise that this show is horrible

Does the story telling deal with complex emotions...in any way? Or plain glorification of EMA???

Well it was bold I admit...if we look at the ML wife then FL is other woman... making her protagonist is bold...but definitely not progressive... glorifying EMA is not cool...at all...
