they should not have ended maskman track at all, Shayad, they could have showed that Agastya( khandaan ka waaris kinda stuff) was suspected to be killed by maskman and then imlie could have vowed to somehow bring down the maskman and they should have added surya(Agastya with memory loss) or even separate character( agastya’s twin) to the mix. Since the maskman mystery worked for the show, the creatives should have spent some good amount of their grey cells (or watched some shows/movies) to spin something better than the bakwaas Navya..

This way Agastya’s death track would have worked i feel. They could have maintained the whole vibe of the show as well.. even the twin revelation would have worked.. nothing would have been faltu and be-Matlab ka..

if agastya with memory loss uncovering the whole maskman thing along with imlie-Agastya having the pull towards each other would have been chef’s kiss…

Many of us had already guessed that maskman could be either related to navya or her husband given how psycho she behaved . The writing of revelation and her track ending was weak.

I think the biggest blunder they did was in first when when so many things were shown at jet speed. Ek week ke episodes mein marriage set up ,then uska tootna, binni introduction, Agasthya binni marriage, navya exposure and Agastya imlie marriage. Its like you blink an eye and you will not understand anything. Itv shows aise toh nhi chalta. Thoda thehraav chahiye.

As for Agastya and surya storyline, the best bet I think would have been following ekta old shows plotlines where hero comes back with even more confidence, money and power to take back revenge on his enemies. Surya in beginning definitely looked inferior to Agastya

They should have brought someone who directly impacted Chaudhary sweets business that would have paved the way for his entry in the business and mansion . Looked more classier and cunning than Agasthya

I wonder what made them duck out from Agasthya’s re-entry plot? 🤔 Although cliche but why wouldn’t it work? The PH / channel never understood what worked for the show

Yes Agastya's re-entry would have been cliche but ITV audience likes cliched plots only. Don't know why the PH/Channel wanted a new character and that too played by the same actor. Ekta ruled ITV using plastic surgery to introduce the leads after a leap when the actors quit. She never did ched khaani with audience ke emotions and when actors quit for whatever reasons she made sure she introduced the new actors with these stupid twists. She did not go about weaving a brand new story with a new actor. The audience accepted the new actor because they played the same character.

Like @MJHTMonayaSajan said - audience are invested in the characters and after 6 months of seeing the characters you can not say, you know what forgot that love story and that character but hey here you go the same actor in a brand new avatar and you should be just fine. I really hope this is a very good lesson for Gul and her Co for the next time around and they won't go killing the ML after the love story has been set up for 6 months. She needs to know that in some cases audience are traditional and don't like these twists.

Raghu and Malti were so stupid and the whole vibe of the show changed because Raghu was a womanizer who just wanted to assault the ladies. I don't think anyone would have been interested in this track. That is why the trps fell and once the audience left they never returned back.

you guys really write so well. I am not a magician of words like you. I have found my peace in the theory that Surya was initially meant to be Agastya only. All the hints were aimed at it only. I can never forget the temple wedding, the Satyavan Savitri reference, Agastya promising to never leave the side of Imlie. I mean you are trying to convince me that a couple who got married in front of Krishna Radha are not destined to be together. Itna camera zoom karke aur aise angle se dikhaya tha ki it felt like Radha Krishna married in form of Agastya imlie at that moment.

Respect all your varied opinions but for me Surya is somewhere Agastya only and he returned back to his imlie. Bas the end and happily ever after.

Thanks for sharing your perspectives Gags, Ren and others!!! Unfortunately, very busy day today so I won't have time to address each and every post..I'll say this in a nutshell though-

I am not saying ki second chance love stories ho nahi sakti, ya matt banao ya aisa kuch...but I think the biggest issue with Imlie for me post Agastya's death was that "This was not the story they set out to tell"...Conviction is everything...being honest is everything...Hum Dil de chuke sanam, kal ho na ho and other movies were never set out to be "the one and only" love stories and then changed course midways...I think the biggest reason why I didn't give SurLie story a chance was that the way it was brought about was soo forced and unnecessary...the way Sunaina said..you give all those references and hints to audiences that Agastya Imlie are the end game and then soo harshly cheat them out of it...I can't let someone take me for granted that much..aise ego wali bhi thodi baat ho gayee thi mere liye

From the story or ITV audience perspective, I think this could have worked if they had really showed happily ever after for Agastya Imlie at least for some time before showing the death track..like the audience would have been convinced with the change if all the potential of AgasLie was already explored and it had started to get boring...and of course, I wouldn't have watched it like many of you, but I think there was a chance this could have worked for ITV audiences, had the same actor not played both the roles...I mean yaar...Sai ke acting kitni bhi achchi ho..Agastya ko kaise koi yaad nahi karega jab wohi chehra TV pe har roz dikh raha hai...

I am not saying Imlie shouldn't find happiness in her life...jab they decided k august ko marna hi hai tab I totally agree k this is better than wo zindagi bhar agastya k ghum me jeeti rahe...my point is,,why did Agastya even need to die?

Anyway...yaar jo bhi ho..mai khud tum logo k roj ke DDP discussions and updates itna miss kar rahi hoon..jabki mai to show dekhti bhi nahi thi...tum log to kitna miss karte honge yaar...how are you gals doing? Hope Sai comes back soon with some other better-written show and we all have something to watch again!!
