They are very good friends offscreen, that’s just it. No actress can have the chemistry that Karishma had with Salman . Even in their flop, cringe movies they had awesome chemistry.

Isn't this pic from the 1999 Filmfare Awards where Salman was up for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor? He won the BSA for KKHH and was upset because it meant he wasn't winning BA and didn't want to go up on stage to accept the award. Karishma clinging to him here was her trying to placate him and tell him that he needs to go up on stage to accept the award and it'll look bad if he doesn't.

As for why Salman and Madhuri didn't work more together, keep in mind that she was first choice for several films with him but she refused them. Bhansali wanted her for Khamoshi. She was his fav heroine and he'd been dying to work with her but didn't get the chance until Devdas. Also she was first choice for Hum Saath Saath Hain but she was supposed to play the Tabu role and she refused because she didn't think audiences would accept her as Salman's sister-in-law and not his love interest.

That being said, I think maybe they had some falling out or some issues. When Salman was complaining about Devdas, he specifically said that Bhansali cast the three main actors because all three were troubled people and Salman was not troubled so he couldn't play the role. I can understand why he would be peeved with SRK and Aishwarya but why did he call Madhuri troubled as well? What was his issue with her? The fact that he felt as angry at her as he was with SRK and Aishwarya suggests there was some underlying issue.

It’s perception thing. Salman is older than Madhuri in age but she debuted first so some people thought it was odd
