TRP wise it's doing fine - in the 9-11 range. But its YT views are very low for the channel, starpower, genre and production quality.

Jaan e jahan on the other hand is a breezy love story . It also doesn’t have much competition since the Monday-Tuesday time slot was occupied by mein which was a disaster . It should’ve been getting better numbers and ratings since everything in its favor .

Yep Khumar is a bust and Namak Haram is on Hum so less competitive. On Saturday, there is no Hum tv drama so one less competition. JeJ should be doing much better. If it was up against a Khaie, it would be getting toast.

As someone who used to read Mills & Boons and still reads Historical Romance (though not the M&B line), there ain't nothing wrong with a well-done Romance novel.

In fact, I wish they had stuck to Mills & Boons template and not tried to do what they did post e28 (and in e5).

The Romance genre (at least since the late 90s till now - I'm not talking 70s 80s bodice rippers) has certain red lines and implicit rules, that TB completely violated in the last 30 episodes (and e5).

1. Your hero cannot be a rapist. He cannot hit the heroine. He cannot cheat on the heroine. M&B and Romance heroes can be toxic but only certain types of toxicity is allowed. Some types of toxic and bad behaviours Romance readers do not tolerate.

2. The confession scene is a pivotal scene in Romance. It's not Romance if the heroine never confesses her love to the hero.

3. Romance novels guarantee a HEA/HFA so a good story is one where even if the writer puts you through the emotional roller coaster and serves you bagfuls of angst, the emotional payoff at the end has to be commensurate. TB didn't deliver that AT ALL.

4. A Romance novel is essentially the relationship journey/arc of 2 cktrs. You need to show relationship & cktr growth. Your leads cannot be stuck in the end where they were at the start. Most importantly, side cktrs don't occupy as much real estate the way Haya and Marium did.

If TB had stuck to M&B formula post E-23 and not went off the rails (and also take put the slap in E5), it wouldn't have been so polarizing.. It was never going to be a Breaking Bad or West Wing but it would have been a very very enjoyable show that pumps your brain full of dopamine.

I really want to send Nooran a genre guideline. Even shows/books that subvert genre tropes need to first know what those tropes and they know what limits not to cross.

You have clearly missed all those gazillion articles in last few years telling us how Raj and Rahul were poster child for toxic masculinity and how DDLJ and KKHH were such toxic films Now everything is a red flag to someone.
