SLB is overrated. Hated all his movies till date, except black and Khamoshi.

Hirani used to be good but his moviemaking has become stale with same kind of tropes repeated to the death.

I like Vikramaditya Motwane, but he doesn’t make movies for the masses.

Bottom line is, no one. It depends from movie to movie.

I agree. His best movies are still his first two movies. Everything after that, he's just proven to be an over-indulgent production designer.

About Motwane, Lootera is a classic, and I like him. If he didn't have this holier-than-thou attitude, I think he's the best equipped filmmaker. He doesn't make masturbatory movies like SLB. He's not stuck with the same humor and tropes like Hirani. He isn't shallow like KJo. He's also much more tactical than Kashyap, who really stopped giving a shit a while back. But he (Motwane) makes movies to prove how his filmmaking is superior and if you do that, it doesn't really resonate. People aren't dumb. They'll sense it.

Gauri Shinde is another underrated filmmaker but you really can't judge her based on two movies only.

I can’t believe you literally spelled out my thoughts on Motwane, and more succinctly.

Gauri Shinde is again pigeonholed herself into the slice of life genre. Actually I only watched EV and Chup from her filmography. I attempted to watch DZ but Alia’s shrill voice put me off .
