It's a glitzy copy of Mumtaz's Aaina which is a lot more bold -in terms of the heroine's behaviour.
Mumtaz asks her mother why she chose to have a large family when they couldn't support them. One of her lovers slaps her when he realises that she was once a good girl from a Brahmin family. She slaps him back asking him why a so-called nice Brahmin boy like him was soliciting her services. Later when she realises that he was going to be the groom for her sister and wants to back out from the suhag raat, she confronts him and tells him to do his duty now that he's married. At one point the man she loved when she was young (Rajesh Khanna) lands up at her house accidentally seeking her services. She's simply unapologestic as she points out that he was not there when she needed him.
Rani never blames her mother Jaya for her plight. Rather than confront her family, she confronts her cousins -albeit the society. Mumtaz's mother never told her to be a prostitute. She's in fact the only one from her family supporting Mumtaz when her blood-sucking family kicks her out.
