But what savi told ishaan about her ajji not wanting her to study and marry etc does this happen in 2023

It may happen till 1990s not after 2000s

all parents and grandparents are seding daughters from small villages to big city to go to big college and work in IT company and do BE/MBA in last 20 years

Which village or place is this where a girl like savi is hit and abused for wanting to go to college

This happened in 1990s and before to girls and i have heard women tell when they were in 90s their parents did not allow to go to college and married them off etc

But after IT boom in 2000s even villagers sending their daughters to learn and earn to big cities

Does this truly happen now too?

I remember women telling me that in 1990s and 1980s when they were not allowed by parents to attend college and married off even in big cities

Or that when they went college in 1980s or 1990s 80% boys were there hardly 10 to 20% women in college classrooms (higher degree and masters)

I am surprised in 2023 all this happen to savi

Yes, it is unrealistic.

I come from a small town lower middle class very traditional muslim family. I was allowed (after some fancy footwork on my side, supported by grandmother) to do engg with barely any other girls in the college and later I came to US to do MS on my own, and this 30-35 yrs ago.

So even then education for girls was difficult but not impossible. Now I do believe and see that more girls from all communities and back grounds are in education, sports and in workforce.

You are right what they are showing is so not possible. Savi and Harini are from affluent families and so are Bhonsles, yet ...

The truth is they have taken an old show and recycling it. The creative Writers have hung their brain to dry or let it get washed away in any of those floods/rains.

In cities girls get enough opportunities and encouragement to pursue studies. I used to work in an industrial town near Bangalore. I was in for a rude shock to learn that there were girls in villages married off at the age of 14/15 . The entire village is hand in gloves in hood winking police. During the pandemic 75 girls were married off and this barely 100 kms away from Bangalore

ITV exaggerates and makes caricatures of characters. Bhavani has been very patriarchal in her thinking and dotted on her nephew more than her own daughter. She was responsible for Harinis mom losing her mental balance I read on the forum.

When the family suffered financial losses due to Patralekha and she could not manipulate Sayi to return to VC she used Little Savi.

Yet in season 2 what we have seen of BC is she is very cantankerous. Can discriminate between Vinu and Savi And Harini. Hers is my way or the highway.

People like BC are very few yet they exist

Well a close minded person doesn't become open minded even with age and experience. Bhavani has always been like that. She didn't spare her own daughter and grand-daughter; Who is Savi then ? smiley36

Firslty, as per the show it is not 2023. The show started in 2020, initially Sai and Virat's were married for 5 years, she completed her MBBS - the show took a leap of 8 years with Savi 7 years old and Vinu 8 years old, which is now 2033 as per Ghum world.

Then Sai Virat died and the show took 10-12 years leap with Savi now around 18 or 19 years old to technically that is the year 2040. So, ideally in 2043 we all are "hoping" that the world does leave some bias, inequality towards women and superstitious behind but but ITV that is never possible

No, it is not unrealistic

I have seen many girls be married off in their late teens and early twenties in past 3-4 years, let alone the decade
