What are your favorite Geeta Dutt songs?

I have been bowled over by Aar Paar ever since I watched it for the very first time many years . Shakila is one the most beautiful women in history of bollywood. And Geeta dutt's voice has been perfect for Aar Paar. IMO, Aar Paar is an almost perfect film.

One fine afternoon as a teenager, I was listening to Radio Ceylon when I heard this song. With an epiphany, I focused my attention on the uniqueness of this voice.

Later, when I read her life narrative, shocked and struck me. All three artists (Waheeda Rehman, Guru Dutt, Geeta Dutt) in that story are outstanding artists in their respective fields.

Since then, whenever I hear the name Geeta Dutt, I see a woman; a deep-eyed, gorgeous figure with a melodic voice appears in front of my eyes. Those eyes are a bundle of life's poems—they depict a smoothly flowing, deep river and the uncontrollable tidal waves of a violent ocean! I began to admire her artistic element.

Unfortunately, Meena Kumari, Geeta Dutt, and Mahanati Savitri perished as a result of male avarice and, subsequently, alcoholism consumed them with their misery

Any song and every song by Geeta is one of my all-time favorites.

Song: Thandi Hawa Kaali Ghata

Movie: Mr & Mrs. 55 (1955)

Music Director: O P Nayyar

Singer: Geeta Dutt

Director: Guru Dutt

Lyricist: Majrooh Sultanpuri

This is my opnion was the best phase of Guru Dutt as a film maker.

Baazi, Jaal, CID, Baaz, Aar Paar, Mr and Mrs 55.

Geeta Dutt's playback was a bonus.

Today, Dec 4 is Shashi Kapoor's death anniversary.

I always nurtured a little bit of a crush on him. I mean who wouldn't? He is probably counted among the most handsome actors to ever grace the Hindi Film Industry. The man was gorgeous and charming - that 1000 megawatt smile and those crooked teeth. Sigh! smiley42 Even his heroines - Sharmila Tagore and Shabana Azmi have admitted to being reduced to blushing messes around him. Though Shammi will always be my fave Kapoor clan hero, Shashi comes a close second. I've watched so many of his movies and his acting always rang with sincerity. It's a fallacy that he always played the good guy/ good cop/ good husband. I mean have you seen him in Junoon or Heat and Dust or Kalyug? The man could act his pants off and how! He was so much more than just a pretty face.

Found this candid interview by him : https://www.pinkvilla.com/entertainment/news/shashi-kapoor-death-anniversary-when-late-actor-revealed-why-he-joined-films-1262932#:.

I have watched a lot of his 70s and 80s movies and enjoyed them but somehow B &W Shashi hits different. The amount of eye candy in The Householder! Goodness me!smiley43

Posting some of my favorite Shashi Kapoor songs in the post below and hope you will too!

One of my favourite Shashi Kapoor songs and also that of Rafi is Yahan Mai Ajnabi Hoon from Jab Jab Phool Khile . Composed by K-A and written by AB.

तेरी बाँहों में देखूं सनम गैरों की बाहें

मैं लाऊंगा कहांसे भला ऐसी निगाहें

wonderful lyrics

Smita Patil! smiley27Amazing actress and I have loved so many of her movies but I feel she's kind of overlooked in Arth since it's supposed to be Shabana Azmi's story. The way she portrays the other woman - in a layered, nuanced way, her jealousy, her insecurity and that slow, downward spiral? It made me hate Inder so much for doing that to two women - Pooja and Kavita. She was spellbinding in that role. There was always a quiet intensity about her - even when she was doing dramatic scenes. Her eyes - they conveyed everything. In that respect, I find her akin to Dilip Kumar. They didn't need over the top gestures or body movements to convey their feelings, they did it with subtle shifts and just their eyes. Such expressive eyes she had! Though Shakti was touted as a face-off between Amitabh and DK, it's Smita's scenes with DK that stand out for me!

Even in a totally commercial outing like Namak Halaal, she managed to downplay her mannerisms and gave Poonam a quiet dignity that balanced out Arjun Singh (Amitabh's) OTT-ness. I miss her and yes, if she were around we'd have been blessed with so much more from her! smiley13

Mujhe pata nahi tha ki Smita was an admirer of Nutan - but it doesn't surprise me. Their brand of acting is very similar. Nutan also conveyed emotions very subtly.

I don't have many favorite Smita Patil songs: she wasn't known for songs, more for acting but here are a couple:

Of all the actors I have seen Smita Patil and Om Puri were the finest.

Here is the iconic Sunya Sunya Maifilit Majhya from Jabbar Patel's 1982 path breaking movie Umbartha.

Composer - Pandit Hrudaynath Mangeshkar, Lyrics - Suresh Bhatt(who else can it be),Singer - Lata
