Just watched Sunday's episode. Once again a mostly great episode, with some extremely high highs.

Adya was mostly good. Her performance of Maahi Ve was very good, but her performance of Beedi was very shake in comparison. She seemed mortal for the first time, but she gets a pass.

Another great performance from Subhadeep. I thought he outshined Adya this week.

Ananya was incredible. The fact that Shreya sang with her was indicative of that.

Utkarsh, wow. Goosebumps from start to finish. Playback level performance from both him and the band.

Special shoutout to the flute guy. He is amazing every single time and it showed especially here.

Maithili is undoubtedly skilled. She also has a style that makes me reach for the fast forward button every time.

Words can't do Menuka's performances proper justice at this point. Every performance feels like a signature event. The judges could give her the Indian Idol trophy today and I would have zero complaints.

Menuka and Richa's duet might be the best thing I've ever heard on any show. It was out of this world.

Surendar never disappoints. I hope he goes to the finals so that I can hear him perform every week.

Utkarsh and Abhijeet meshed well together.

Basically if you take out Maithili's performance, this was a sublime episode.

Haven't been able to watch the episode yet. But don't you feel this time the bonding between the contestants aren't there much? Like I've visited almost all their profiles but don't get to see any BTS as such or snippets from their daily routine. Like say a show like IBD where after a point the offscreen camaraderie of the contestants became more entertaining than the onscreen one

I feel Maithili is very overrated. Just coz she can sing opera, they hype her performance.

I felt the same too beside that one picture they had together in some that someone had post earlier there is nothing thing. Maybe they just want to focus on music which is good too but would love to see something from them in social media. Also some of them are not that active in social media like they don’t post anything at all related to them so forgot about posting other related stuff. I am not saying they should be in social media all the time. music should be first priority but you know post something or come live for 5 or 10 minutes. This way they are going to gather public attention. Because they will need the support of public after sometimes when the voting starts. Coming to the live thing I would love to have the live thing they did last seasons with contestants every week before the telecast date from Sony fb page and talk about guest music and stuff.

Completely agree with you about contestants bonding. Season 12 & 13 contestants had amazing bond. Even the contestants of current SRGMP seem to have better bonding.

Very true, like reborn said, after a while it is this bonding and social media game that actually would help them attract audience for voting and popularity which even though unfortunate is a reality today. They need to be strong at their social media game. I remember Sony helping the contestants out in their shows to set up their profiles and post better content so hope they do it this time too since many contestants seems to have dormant accounts. And the ones who are active and strong in social media like Subhadeep, Anjana, Adya etc only keep posting about themselves. I hope the camaraderie gets better with time because I genuinely feel it also shows in your singing when artists become a part of a community and act like one.

So true and I also hope their bonding gets better with a time but I did see Utkarsh sharing couple of the contestant’s grihapravesh special episode promo in his story so hope he and others continue to do that. Like I said come to live for like 5-10 minutes with each other or share picture. Also no one is making vlog this season.

Finally finished watching the Sunday episode and absolutely LOVED it! What fabulous singing by the contestants. I had so many goosebumps while listening to Menuka. And just when I thought her performance was over with SSS, they started Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam with Richa and damn I couldn't just stop myself from tearing up. Such purity in Menuka's voice, the notes that she touched perfectly, it truly felt like I was listening to God through her voice. Did you guys see the high notes she went with Richa towards the end? Just wow! I have nothing but good wishes to Menuka. The effortlessness with which she sings is truly heart touching. Her's was my favorite performance followed by Utkarsh. Uff what is this guy man? Can anybody believe he is just 18 by listening to his voice? Absolutely heavenly voice, I really hope he does wonders in the classical space and brings back the glory of classical singing days in mainstream media.

Ananya too was amazing. Her's was my third favorite performance. Subhadeep did a brilliant first half with Dil Se but I personally felt he ruined it towards the end with the improvisation. The judges gave a standing ovation but I only enjoyed the first half where he was brilliant as usual. His voice throw is amazing though. Adya was fine as well. She is very young so it's expected that her tonal quality won't be perfect given her voice texture but I'm sure with time the mentors will help her finesse her voice. I feel her energy kind of drops towards the end in every performance which stops her performance from being wholesome.But after listening to Richa and realizing that we only have Richa, Rekha Bharadwaj and Kavita Seth right now with such voice texture, in context I think it becomes even more important to give singers like Adya a chance for our future generation.

However somehow I just can't connect with Maithili. Even during auditions I was kind of disappointed that she got the golden mic and got selected but everytime I hear her sing I feel it turns out to be a very messy performance. By now we have seen many contestants trying out fusion in different shows and auditions but one thing I've realized it that Opera singing just doesn't go well with Indian singing even if its pop songs. I found her to be the weakest of the lot and a very medicore performance. Again just like Adya, she loses her energy towards the end and keeps the mic so far away that you can't listen to her properly. I think she might be the one who might get eliminated first if she doesn't surprise.

Overall a terrific opening weekend, happy with the way both the performances and the show is shaping up. No useless drama with the judges or contestants, superb hosting by Hussain (with an eye blinding color for a suit) and judges having fun. I guess from next week when the competition begins, we will hopefully see better feedback from them like the auditions.

The only complaint that I have though is the band. Is this the same band like previous seasons? I am finding them pretty weak in comparison to earlier seasons. Right from Mega Auditions. Also the arrangement sometimes look off. And the choice of the choir too. Like the choir singing during Utkarsh's performance was so bad yaar especially towards the end. Same with the decision of making the guys sing with Adya. I think her performance would've sounded way better without the guys singing in the background.

Just read the voting T&C on SonyLiv for Indian Idol. So voting starts from tomorrow till 26th February 2024. Till 11th February, voting will happen in every alternate week. So like voting lines will open tomorrow for this week but next week there won't be any voting and after that week the voting will resume. This pattern will happen till 11th February after which the timetable shows a huge gap without voting. I think during that time they are going to have that thing they did last to last season where the finalists keep singing for a certain number of weeks and their marks get accumulated. I forgot what they call that round. Last voting is on 26th February so finale of this season will probably happen on 2nd or 3rd March. So in total five months show as of now. Looks decent I guess.
