Exactly and hadn't Majboor said that he doesn't care about her. If her existence doesn't matter to him, what would she even do after coming back? Maybe join the retinue of servants in TamaShah Royal Palace or go to beg for forgiveness on behalf of her son

Exactly I mean why is she even coming back... Is it to tell Anuj, how Anu is suffering, as she as a mother has lost her son and he should just wait and watch, as team Shahs, of which Anupamaa is an inseparable member, fight all odds against society, powerful politicians, system, police, judiciary etc. After all this is done she will come back to him and talk. Till then he needs to do what he is best at - WAIT .. But this can be done by any useless character as well.. MD is not needed for that.. This can be done by his own atmaa too...

Or she is coming back to tell Anupama about Anuj's perspective. But then dare she give gyaan to Anu, she will be hounded again by Baa and Vanraj, reminding her of her past sins and Anupama's ehsaan. Anupama will give expressions as if how bored she is listening to him, as giving morality lessons is her copyright. Anuj himself will not let her impart any knowledge to his enlightened Anu... This scenario again does not need Malti Devi. This too can be done by any worthless character...
