Some of it is blatant misogyny. Some of it is not wanting the women in their families to be treated the way they’ve treated their female costars. Then there’s the archaic believe that being an actress is not a respectable profession for a woman which was the reason Kapoors forbade their wives and daughters from working in the industry.

Bachchans’ case is a little strange because Jaya while she took time off to raise her kids she did work here and there. Aishwarya just had a huge blockbuster down south. I wonder if Navya not being allowed to act is more of Shweta’s own issues than anything her father has said or asked.
