You don't need Kindle subscription to buy books on Amazon. You can download Kindle Cloud Reader app on your phone or laptop.
There's an upcoming Stuff your Kindle event on September 20. Lots of free books to be downloaded from Amazon, which can be read on cloud reader. I'll share the link on IF when the organizers share with me. 😊
I threw my kindle in the dustbin. Hateeeed it. Download the Kindle App for iCloud or Google Play. The experience is superior. You can also try Scribd!

The user is experience is so so poor & infuriating. I did not find the reading experience any better. The kindle app tho!!! Works great on my iPad. I have even tried it on a Samsung tablet & the experience does not vary. You can look up words, highlight, adjust reading ease so the functionality is same. But the experience is vastly superior.Originally posted by: Bloody-Mary

Aren't there online libraries where one can read books even on pc in the town where you live...one just has to have a member card.
I can rent online books, audio books and movies just through my town's library of the stock existing in all the region where I live...
