I agree Sunny Deol doesn't seem manipulative. And if the guy feels bitter about Lagaan stealing Gadar's thunder in the media that is also understandable.

Problem is that fans / media take a simple and incorrect negative statement and blow it out of proportion to the extent even Sunny might be feeling bad why he said what he said. It's either Lagaan is infinitely superior to c grade mindless Gadar which is hit only due to jingoism or anti Islam / anti Pakistan sentiment or Aamir is a PR made star who sold a disaster like Lagaan as a classic and deprived Gadar of its true recognition.

Why can't media simply say that we had two great and popular movies releasing on the same day - one excelled due its simple and endearing love story and a superheroic fight to win it back, the other was a massively successful experimentation in terms of storytelling and technology and was a super fun movie to watch. We can also acknowledge that gadar connected more with audience hency higher collections but Lagaan was also appreciated a lot ( also has a stronger legacy due to Oscar nomination) and inspired future moviemakers to excel and work on new stories.
