"Who all were the front-runners? Would love to check it out, "

There were joint winners - one of them is a devotional song specialist, unlikely to attempt anything out of his comfort zone. The other was Ashmita Kar. She was the runner up in the Lil Kids competition the year Arunita won it. She has already participated in SRGMPA at the senior All India level - the year Kushal Paul won and Jyotika Tangri was a finalist.

2nd was my favourite - an untrained natural singer from the Darjeeling hills. Albert Kabo. He was the the most popular contestant. Here is a clip:

Kabo recently lost his 1st born and I don't think he is ready for a national level competition at this time.

3rd was Sonia Gazmer who has already participated in the IL10 (1st elimination). She may not compete any more.

I know nothing about him, but he seems to be well liked in the industry.

He was offered to join Indian Idol 14. Not sure if he will actually join or not.

Actually, your knowledge of languages is quite impressive. 😁👍. Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, kumaoni, garhwali & what not! 😱👍😁

Tamil &Malayalam do sound similar to the uninitiated. 😁. So no worries. Not like kannada & Telugu which sound distinct.

To be honest, I had just assumed it is Malayalam without listening carefully because Rituraj was in it 😃. I don't understand Tamil and Malayalam much, but when I hear these languages I am able to identify them by the words spoken. But identifying from a song is a little difficult. For one, songs use words that are not commonly used in routine conversations, and secondly the words are sometimes split or combined based on the meter of the song - so unless one knows the language one wouldn't know where one word ended and another started.

Ankita Bhattacharya, Sugandha Date, Niharika Nath, Nishtha Sharma, Sneha Shankar etc are fairly popular and they have a history of participating in multiple shows. So I wouldn't be surprised if any of them makes a return on TV.

Debanjana Karmakar is one name I always to come back again. Not sure if she's interested or not.

I don't know many names from South. Nityashree is already doing very well I think. Aryananda is still young and just participated in Superstar Singer 2. Anjana (IIJ winner) and Vishnumaya (Rising Star) are good options.

I really liked Sharayu Date from whatever I had seen in The Voice India.

Among boys I hardly have any names except Shreyan & Satyajit.

Some of the names you mention may compete if they get a good deal from the organizers.
I think it is fair to accept that channels (Sony in particular) tempt/cajole popular singers with offers. These may include elimination protection till a certain stage. I don't have proof, but my source has been reliable in the past.
It is a business after all. Some expense/flexibility can assure higher returns. But they need a male star contestant - let's see who they bring out of the cupboard.

Vishal Dadlani has shared the Indian Idol 14 audition post in his story. I guess he has been retained as the judge.

Thanks for the share. Loved kabo’s clip.
PD had made Shayad his song. But Kabo’s rendition is equally appealing. 👍👌. There is a freshness in the voice - soft & beautiful. Planning to catch up more on him.
I was reading up on him. What a tragedy to lose an eight-month old baby! It was as recent as July, right? But there is a news item that he is back to work. He may not be up for the rigors of a national show yet. But may be next season.

There must be something in the mountain air - it churns out such gems, that too untrained ! 😊

"It was as recent as July, right?"

That is right. The child was born with a serious medical condition and chances of survival were slim.

If you have Zee subscription then it is easy to catch up with his performances during the show.

Kabo sings from the heart and is extremely tuneful. He carries no stage fright and is great to watch. "Free as the wind" is what his singing sounds like to me. 😊

Here is one clip that I found:

PS: There is another contestant in the frame who many here are familiar with. Can anyone name him/her? :)

Tagging Altgr. Most likely person to nail that singer in my opinion, but many others here are familiar with that singer.
