I never said their culture or nation is as good.
I am aware they have mental health issues, sexism, own insecurities etc.
But the point was about their pop culture fascinating rest of the world. Something which has not happened with other nations' pop culture before.
How the hell did they manage to fascinate others and take world by storm?
So much so that people are willing to ignore realities and want to use their products, food, home remedies or travel to their nation and look like them or marry them and there is renewed interest in their literature, history, customs, handicrafts, dress etc?
What have they done that others have not? And can Indians ever achieve that moment for own pop culture?

Is this post for real? How can an Indian possibly be so self-loathing toward Indians?
There are two kinds of self loathing people. Ones who hate themselves to such an extent that they put down their own race and then there is the other group that uses every opportunity to put their own group on a pedestal while looking down on the rest of humanity. This thread has given us both examples

Daymm.....Busted!!! But I'm not ethocentric....just spitting facts. If I say southern Indian society is a lot more educated & forward thinking while North India is patriarchal & backward.....it wouldn't be ethocentric, it would be facts based on numbers. Similar to what I said about 90% of Bollywood Actors being from one region.
These actually sound cool đ
Its like the person knew one day someone would need to use it on someone who likes facial hair đ
Telling truth is not self loathing.
Satyajit Ray had also called Indian audience backward and lamented state of Indian films. So did Kay Kay Menon, Naseer.
NR Narayana Murthy also said Indians have too much ego and easily use superlatives for self without seeing where rest of world is.
Were they self hating?
I feel second hand embarrassment seeing how we have been fed same type of films, songs and serials for decades, have so much plagiarism and remakes, without crediting originals and such low standards that we call even cheap mimics and copycats as icons or legends or greatest blah blah.
The more one is exposed to original content and one sees how much Bollywood or regional industry merely copied, the more one wonders about kind of overrated idiots getting National awards or Padma awards here and making it to icon lists.
As for looks, well yes most Indians are unhealthy. South Asia has remained enslaved for centuries and is still ruled by corrupt lot. The poor diet, poor climate and poor living conditions may have been a contributing factor in uneven skin tone, generally shorter average height, looking aged too soon.
We even have fruits and vegetables injected with hormones and artificial colours and harmful pesticides to make it grow sooner and look more colourful. The contamination and low production standards and pollution may have a role in affecting health and looks too.
Would you call Buzzfeed India editor Rega Jha self loathing too for saying 'we will always be ugly neighbours' (in relation to Pak) and calling Indians uglier in comparison on Twitter?
Atleast I did not call all Indians ugly and used the term desi which encompasses South Asia as a whole.
No sharp features, chiselled faces and generally uneven skin and always begin to look far older than actual age in early 20s itself. We have increasing cases of premature balding, premature greying in the country besides increased cases of people looking to get teeth corrected and rise of cosmetic dentistry, cosmetologists, dermatologists, plastic surgeons in India in recent decade.
Average desis also have issues with hirsutism including women as well. Probably due to hormonal imbalance, climate and faulty diet, contaminated food, pollution, poverty, poor sleep patterns, lack of exercise etc.
Never seen Korean celebs looking like grizzly bears like Anil Kapoor. They groom themselves well.

The racism on this thread is mind-blowing. Why can't we accept that both Indian culture and Korean culture have their pros and cons and have traits that will appeal to different people? Sad to see people putting down Indians and Koreans here instead of just accepting both.

Yeah I don't think that qualifies as "Self Loathing"....quite the opposite actually. Narcissistic maybe? đ
What is paper tiger in stating truth?
Enough of sanctimonious political correctness.
