Strange question...with your knowledge about HIndi Cinema, you know it already... and it's even the same for World Cinema...
I still remember the first time I watched Tom Cruise’s movie A Few Good Men. My dad was playing the movie on VCR and I wasn’t even paying attention, that is until the climax scene which was when I think I fell for the actor. Needless to say, I watched the movie countless number of times but I also watched every single movie that Tom did. He was the one who introduced Action , thriller and Sci Fi genres to me and may be countless other people. So it’s also possible that a good actor can actually introduce new genres through his work and make them popular.

Action+Romance
This.
SRK reached the pinnacle with DDLJ. But he broke into the scene with disturbing anti-hero roles like Darr and Baazigar.
Tom Cruise is considered the last superstar for his commitment to realistic cinematic action. But while he was making his name as an action hero, he was also the heartthrob every girl wanted.
So its the right blend of action and romance.
For the top superstars of all time, its either action (mostly) or romance. Exceptions are Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Aamir Khan etc. Its not that they never did those genres, but they were not known as action or romantic heroes.
Has any actor become a Superstar through thriller genre? I can only think of Emraan Hashmi. But he didn't become a Superstar. Even comedy, which actor became a Superstar with only this genre other than Govinda? Akshay doesn't count because he also seen success in other genres like action, patriotic dramas and social dramas.
Romance, romance, and more sexy romance❤️
In olden times it was different, I guess action movies though existed didn't take it's hold worldwide since the 70s or the 80s
Bond movies started in the 60s though
DK, RK. DA period was different, they mostly did romance or in Dk's case cry (still over romance), and RK doing his imitation of CC
But to have lasting success it seems like action for a hero is required worldwide
I was in two minds about whether it was romance or action.
Though I personally think action makes a male actor last longer in business and may make him worldwide legend such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, even if emoting capability is less good.
But then super success of primarily romantic stars like SRK and Rajesh Khanna or Aamir who struck gold with message based films, made me wonder what genre is better.
I personally think tragedy is weakest genre to make a male actor a superstar material as no one likes a crying or wasted man but then success of Dilip Kumar made me confused as well.
Hence I asked and thought of reading views of other cine lovers.

Who is CC?
That reminds me, the other day I was watching Naseeb and even Randhir Kapoor does the same. Thankfully Rishi Kapoor developed his own style.
CC act inspired actors the world over,
It became part of acting vocabulary,
You might not realize it, many Indian actors emulated it at least in a small way, it might be in a song sequence, comedy sequence…

Where you were rooting for the pairing of the lead actor/actress with the second lead/side character instead of with the main one?
