Cannes has always been just as much of a trade event for distributors and fashion showcase for brands as it has been a festival for auteurs. Just because more Indian brands have now started tapping the festival as a BTL marketing event, doesn't mean that the festival has suddenly cheapened.

Why does Kusha Kapila going to Cannes suddenly lower the value of Cannes for people when she is also there for a brand endorsement just like Aishwarya is. It's not like Aishwarya or Anushka are there for any of their own films. The old money-new money attitude towards actors and influencers is bizarre.

Also what is this representation nonsense. This is not a sporting event. People aren't being selected to represent the country at Cannes. Especially not for brand endorsements.

The elitism, the classism, the snobbery of it all.
