Will Gadar 2 be a hit in this environment?

I don't think so but the director and everyone involved seem to be optimistic. Gadar was a massive hit but it was a long time ago, and moviegoing audiences are usually in their 20s. However the draw is the name of the movie itself - will a franchise be able to survive a new movie with a famous IP (Animal)?

The Indian environment is patriotic, nationalistic and totally anti-Pakistan right now afaik. Indians and Pakistanis hate each other from the bottom of their hearts. So Gadar 2 is going to be a massive hit. That's a given. Sunny Deol's dialogues are going to be a rage and set the box office on fire.

Animal is also going to be a big big hit. Ranbir Kapoor will show his real potential as a superstar with this movie.

There are more than enough screens in India now that two movies can be mega blockbusters. So we don't have to worry about that.

The current environment is the best time for a movie like Gadar.

If Gadar 2 is anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan then it can work. Otherwise no because Ghayal Once Again was a Flop.

Gadar was neutral in its portrayal of Pakistan. The main villains including Amrish Puri were Pakistani but the movie didn't show Indians as pure saints either. And they made the father have a change of heart in the end. The message was to promote love and peace between the two countries. If Gadar 2 repeats this then no it won't be a Hit for sure.

But the movie has Indo-Pak war of 1971 as a backdrop, so likely no peace message this time, and they might go all out showcasing hatred for Pakistan. Definitely would have a patriotic feel to it, much more than Gadar 1. That still doesn't guarantee if the movie would be Hit. Biggest problem is Anil Sharma. He's an outdated director. If WOM is not good, it won't work. Also the sequel would never reach the heights of Gadar 1. Clash with Animal itself has ensured that.

Gadar can't be compared to Ghayal because Gadar is an iconic and historic blockbuster hit which everyone has watched while nobody today even knows what is Ghayal.

Gadar clashed with Lagaan and still created history.
