Jeez how damaging it could be to someone’s self confidence to say it on their face that they aren’t good looking Like who’s Adi to decide that? Looks are subjective. Moreover it can instill a sense of insecurity in anyone if a top shot producer is telling them that they aren’t pretty/handsome enough by BW standards. So mean!

Yep yep. And Shanoo agreed. Even though I mean… LOOK AT HER. 🤡

These pick-mes I hate. Acting is not about only good-looks, it’s about actual bloody talent.

Agreed but our industry thrives on good looks though, otherwise we wouldn’t have so many talentless idiots on our screen all the time.

Because nepotism and probably looks....but mostly nepotism

Adi made Katrina also go through some plastic surgery and lip job when he signed her for 3 films opposite 3 Khans and wanted her to look hotter for D3 and ETT.

He had told Anushka to her face that she was no Aishwarya Rai and she would have to work harder with an average face like that. AS spoke how she had a fairly positive opinion about her looks earlier and did not think she looked that bad but after hearing AC talk like that about her looks she got insecure and it added to her anxiety and resulted in that disastrous lip job that spoiled her face.

Karan is similar and he had told Rani to her face that she was too short, fat, and had dark skin and poor voice.

Even Preity Zinta was nicknamed Piggy Zinta and told she was too chubby. She got her skin lightened further, went through weight loss and also got her teeth corrected and a lip job after even Saif told her she was ordinary looking but looked good only after make up.

It seems Bollywood is an extremely misogynistic place, the men here judge and body shame women and drive them to insecurity and body image issues and women lose self esteem and go through various procedures hoping to look good.

makes me like him for once. 😆All the examples you cited make him come across as honest and non-PC. And what's wrong with calling someone short and fat if that's what they are? It's film business and these characters will be on screen watched by millions. Yes, in Rani's case, her looks did not matter ultimately. But I wouldn't bet on everyone short and puffy looking making it.

ps- i think we drop the word misogynist too easily here. Sort of cheapens it. Here's the dictionary meaning of the word-

"a person who dislikes, despises, or is strongly prejudiced against women"

sure he can be mean about people (both men and women, eg Ranveer) who dont look good to him, but I dont see that as being prejudiced in general against women, especially given he has a lot of women friends.

that said, all this woke army BS is really starting to get over the top!

Someone asked me if you can go to someone who is smoking a cigarette and lecture them about ruing their life why can’t you do the same to a fat person

Bollywood is indeed misogynistic, objectifies women, body shames women, shows women in a usually cheap manner.

I do not need a right winger to mansplain me what misogyny is and what is NOT.

Katrina looked great as she was. She did not need any surgery.

Also there is no need to shame anyone for their natural skin tone or height. Same men cannot tolerate when they are mocked for their height or looks. Most men would be crying double standards or misandry if we talked about how puny Khans were compared to tall stars like Amitabh and how goat like voices they had, compared to baritone of Amitabh.

Factors that are not under one's control and cannot be really worked on such as voice or skin tone or height should not be mocked.

Talent and skill also matter as actors otherwise any pretty model or pageant winner would have made it huge in industry.

Nothing likeable in Adi and K Jo calling normal looking girls like Anushka, Preity, also various things or Adi making Kat go through lip job for D3.

Kat was naturally stunning and did not need faltu surgeries.

It is not being honest but setting unrealistic standards and inducing insecurity in even normal looking people. Ranveer is not some Hrithik type handsome but he is not ugly either. And if AC can work with far worse looking SRK in so many films then what was need to body shame RS?
