Her upbringing shapes her views on life and it gives her a peak into a worldview that is lost to him. Murtasim is not a dogmatic character he is amendable to Meerab's views, she just needs to remind him now and then. Because of her influence he eventually becomes the man he wants to become and not live a life trapped in a system. Hence if she doesn't exist he doesn't exist either.
