This is what happens when you have to pay more money to the Twitter promoters to give the film rave reviews than the film actually earned.

It's kind of hilarious though. First Karan Johar poured so much money for 7 years in this mediocre over budgeted venture, then he poured even more money for the massive PR campaign to somehow prove that the movie is not a complete disaster at the BO to save his and his beti and damad's face, only for things to turn out like this.Quite deserving!

This ๐๐ผ
Movie is Hit on twiteer and on social media-- not in theatre๐คฃ
๐seems like this didn't get good numbers at box office
Backing out of this is the most sensible decision taken by kjo๐
But wait this was his dream project right?๐คฃ
No RK fans in the thread trying to justify that it was a hit? ๐

It was crystal clear from the promo itself and Day 1 Box office when PVR shares took a dip in the share market.
Poor they!
It was tone deaf and bland af!
I wonder how much they had to pay for false Box office propaganda and tweets.
Official handles really tried hard to spread a positive WOM!
It was alas few delusional fans and ofcourse stans who celebrated.

i always found these box office numbers to be fake ๐
Taapsee Pannu.
theatrical releases depend upon the box office to make a profit, whereas with ott releases itโs a much safer option as they are getting an offer upfront and alot of times the ott releases have a smaller budget so they can easily make a profit from the offer. Once it releases on the ott platform it doesnโt make more money, it is just about the views which make the ott platform more money.I was also just generally talking about how alot of production houses call their ott releases hits. Kjo has claimed every ott film of dharmas as a success, now on what basis is he calling it a success? Nobody is really going to question him about it. That's why I said ott releases are easily called hits.
This is a good point. Disney and Hotstar actually make views quite easy to calculate/guess how much has been seen/vs profit (to an extent - PR could lie about budget but that always comes out). Netflix publishes reliable numbers - the most of the lot.
Dharma Flops (on OTT):
Gunjan Saxena
Drive
Bhoot (Vicky)
Hence when KJO tried to sell GMN, they sold it for like 65 cr, but KJO wanted 80 cr. Surprisingly GMN turned a big profit but it was too late for Vicky, who got kicked out of immortal Aswathamma. So it's possible later that KJO didn't turn a profit from GMN despite it being a hit on paper, for example with SOTY.
The movie w/Deepika was a massive hit, Liger has some clear money laundering through Puri lmfao, JJJ wasn't enough, Brahmastra came with it's own set of burdens. I still feel RARKPK will do well, but Selfiee was probably the nail on the cannon.
2 cr for Akshay as an opening is horrendous and he should feel rather ashamed.
