I am sure there are 'some' laws in place, but the reality is - there is hell lot of completion for coming onscreen - and many parents are desperate (some youngsters are themselves desperate for fame) - so they let it slide. Plus these producers & directors have a lot of options. So they hold the power. I also learnt from reading her memoir - that emotional & sad scenes are much harder. She used to imagine her family dying to get tears in her eyes - and she said that crying on cue is a plus point for child stars to get selected. Its emotionally and mentally exhausting to be working when kids want to be carefree and just enjoy life. Jeanette also mentions how she she felt stunted emotionally and mentally from working since she was a kid (looking at how incredibly poignant she sounds in the book, she seems to be incredibly intelligent tbh )
Tunisha was also just 20 when her life was abruptly cut short (as per wiki - she has been working since 2015) . She was main lead on the show - we have no idea how long she has been auditioning, trying to get roles. Many tv stars don't have a lot of connections either. She is an adult legally, but still.. there is reason why star kids end up crazy.
By the way, Amanda Bynes had also worked with Dan Schneider when she was young. Here is a pic that went viral sometime back. She was 13 when the show aired. Now we know why she got so messed up.
I feel sad for amanda:( her easy A or she is the man- my childhood fav movie..she is seriously messed up:(
