I have seen the term Hawas ka pujari used most by Hindus.

Hindus also joke about Kaamsutra and various temples whose wall art and sculptures, carvings show sexual poses.

And Hindus themselves call own rituals a waste of time, money and too tedious and joke even about Rakhi.

Rakhi and term bhaiya are reduced to jokes. That you celebrate Raksha bandhan but not Valentine or 'bane rahe bhaiya, kabhi na bane saiyaan' or using Rakhi as a way to tease boys and boys hating that day and avoiding girls then and even older teachers saying they will get girls to tie Rakhi to boys.

Like why joke even about a festival that celebrates bond of siblings and why shame someone for being seen as a brother or sister?

As long as Hindus do not correct own ways and mock own self, they cannot blame others or films for showing them a particular way.

I have seen women with anger issues being called Kali roop or Chandi roop. Huh? Chandi did not have merely temper issues. The anger and destruction caused by Kali or Chandi have specific cause behind it. Hindus demean own deities and legends if they use such references.

I do not see Sikhs with anger issues compare self to Guru Gobind Singh for eg.

So we need to have no go zones, draw the line somewhere and draw boundaries.

Few years ago, during an election campaign, Sidhu had compared himself to Guru Gobind Singh and his aides also used the title 'Mard Agamra' for him, which was originally a title used to address Guru Gobind Singh in honour for his warrior skills. He was ripped apart for it and had to apologise to Sikhs and Akal Takht for this and warned never to compare self to Gurus or use any word for self, which is used for Gurus.

You do not see Hindus object to own random people comparing self to gods.

How easily people call Lata an embodiment of Saraswati or an avatar of her? Or a politician had compared Indira Gandhi to Durga after 1971 war. Or someone ended up saying Modi is an avatar of Kalki? Why?

We should know where to draw the line.

I am also against Hindus making cartoons and toys or dolls on own gods. How can one reduce Hanuman or Ganpati to toons or plush toys? If you learn to play with something what reverance will you have for it? If you reduce deities to TV or film characters or comics, tattoos, cartoons you will gradually see casual behaviour and lack of respect.

There are reasons why Muslims and Sikhs do not allow toons or serials on Prophet or Gurus nor allow actors to play Prophet or Gurus. Unlike Hindus who have allowed anything and now we have fools who even fall at feet of Arun Govil and Nitish Bharadwaj or Mohit Raina and Saurabh Raj Jain, seeking their blessings or invite them at ceremonies or ask them to speak on gods or debate gods like characters of a novel or write fan fiction re imagining own gods without bothering about respect (for eg, wanting to imagine romantic relation with Draupadi and Krishna).

I know BJP and RSS use such references and controversies but I would not mind if ordinary Hindu showed some spine and self introspection too. You do not need to do what other communities do but you do not need to be so casual about own faith either.

This is just an extension of your previous post which i already agreed to.

The problem is if Hindus partake in such jokes or don't take offense then the fault is their's as they have no self respect. If they do take offense abd stand up for self and community respect they are termed intolerant and hindutvavadis (as if its a bad thing).

What to do? Any suggestion?

I think even Hirani would not write anything on Prophet after Charlie Hebdo and diplomatic crisis it caused for France with Islamic nations.

I agree Aamir has influence but I guess he avoided as the scene is not Lord Shiva but an actor playing a role. PK did not show actual Lord Shiva like, say, Mahadev serial.

Nor any confrontation with god as Amitabh has with Shiva in Deewar and with Hanuman idol in Hera Pheri where he calls god as patthar and someone who hears and sees and does nothing.

Taapsee has actually had Twitter fights with Sikhs and also mocked Waheguru and his army and justified Sikhs smoking and posted pics of smoking Sikhs and once said she would never marry or date a Sikh and spoke how she always wanted to cut her hair and hated her long hair as Sikh. So I think she is more of someone fed up with religion and is non religious and takes joy in defying religion and religious lobbies, symbols and hence had no issue wearing Lakshmi locket with revealing dress. She would probably rein her freethinker side only in case of Prophet because she would not just get a case or mere trolling but something else if she did it.

Hindus and Sikhs leave it to cases, online abuse, TV debates or trolling or protest, haaye haaye dharna or boycott for once. Matter dies down later.

Take a stand and draw the line somewhere and also watch own language. Instead of just protests.

Like if it is routine to not use references to god lightly or if you interject someone for joking about Rakhi or use references to Holi ka din and Diwali ki raat or fireworks at Diwali night to hint at sexual innuendo, just put your foot down.

It is regular small steps that will slowly change habits.

Refuse to buy toons and toys with gods and reducing goda to stickers.

Start small in everyday life.

Avoid comparing any human to gods. I can praise Lata's singing without comparing her to Saraswati mata.

I have no need to compare Modi or Indira to Durga or Vishnu and I should criticise even if someone else does it.

Indians are generally respectful towards faith. If you keep interjecting, they will slowly change their way of talking and think twice before using references lightly. It will take lot of time to change though and undo conditioning of last centuries.

Junk all idioms and proverbs that demean your faith. Like why teach 'Bagal mein chhuri muh mein Ram Ram'? When no one says, 'Bagal mein chhuri aur muh main Allah Allah'?

Start somewhere.

I am glad you agree Hindus themselves have issues and let it fester.

They also teach a lesson to those who ever spoke against their govt.

Taapsee will have a price to pay for attending CAA protests and ranting against BJP in general on Twitter

This was actually my original point. No-one dares to mess with Islam.

I agree Aamir has influence but I guess he avoided as the scene is not Lord Shiva but an actor playing a role. PK did not show actual Lord Shiva like, say, Mahadev serial.

Ofcourse it's not actual shiva. But the point remains the same. Can they show a caricature or resemblance of prophet or Aisha in a funny or not-so-respectful situation (not actual) without backlash or other serious repercussions?

Nor any confrontation with god as Amitabh has with Shiva in Deewar and with Hanuman idol in Hera Pheri where he calls god as patthar and someone who hears and sees and does nothing.

Things like those had been plenty in Bollywood movies and hindus have been gradually desensitised to taking increasing amount of jokes and insults. thankfully this is changing. But, as a result, we are being called intolerant.

That i agree with. No one dares to mess with them.

Agree.

See even i have my signature as - "Narad muni of IndiaForums". This can be seen as I comparing myself with Narad Muni. When i only mean to reflect that quality of Narad muni as being someone who adds fuel to fire (even though for collective good).

Now if someone were to take offense at or call me hypocrite then that is related to their own threshold for such connections with religious symbols or Gods. But in a way even I'm guilty of comparing myself to Narad muni cos he's much more than someone just adding fuel to fire....

So like they say, change should come from within first I will delete my signature right now.

I'm not perfect. I do make mistakes but i try to rectify when i realise. That's human.

Instead of focusing on what should you wear or not wear on your head in school, one should have taught them "respect" as lesson in school.... but then those that dont even respect themselves, nothing much you can expect from them..
