Chopras have pissed many.

They pissed Aamir also and Aamir called Yash Chopra a liar. He said Yash C was narrating different scripts to him and Sunny and suspected foul play.

Aamir did not work with YRF for ages after that until Aditya Chopra offered him olive branch and he worked in Fanaa.

Yea I know Sunny was really pissed after Darr. I don’t think he has never worked with YRF since.

I think Akshay had some issues too after DTPH too. Till Tashan that is.

This reminds me of TBBT S11 E21 The Comet Polarization.

Penny looks through Raj's telescope and spots something. After mocking her, Raj has her take a picture. Raj later identifies it as a previously unknown comet. Raj registers the comet and takes credit for the discovery. Penny is pissed that her name isn't on the discovery. Raj believes that without his astronomical expertise, the comet couldn't be identified and discovered. Penny believes that without her seeing something and taking a photo, Raj wouldn't have been able to identify the comet. Ultimately, Raj adds her name to placate a pissed-off Penny and preserve their friendship.

I can see Aditya and Honey Irani both having valid perspectives. Aditya probably thought it was his original script, and Honey's contributions were not significant enough to merit credit. Honey probably felt the DDLJ script wouldn't get where it was without her guidance, and she deserved credit. If Aditya wanted to preserve the relationship, he would have added her name. It would be the mature thing to do. But his ego probably got in the way.

Of course, this is pure speculation. It's an interpretation of hearsay of hearsay. I don't know what happened.

I thought Aamir didn't do Darr because he didn't think a negative role was appropriate for his career at that time. Ironically, Fanaa and Dhoom 3 were negative roles.

But I know Sunny Deol totally felt let down and misled. He thought he was being given a hero's role where he saves the girl from the bad guy. But audiences ignored his character and rooted for SRK's character. I don't know if YRF misled Sunny about the script or the script organically changed during filming. I speculate it was the latter. It was the first time SRK worked with YRF, and I think Yash Chopra was charmed by him and played favorites.

Apparently Aamir asked for a combined narration with Sunny as he realized both were being told different things and Yash Chopra got super angry

Why would Aamir sign Darr if he did not want to do a negative role? Aamir was angry when Chopras spread this rumour about him after he left Darr. He said he wanted a joint narration with Sunny as he felt both he and Sunny were being narrated different scripts and different versions of same scenes. Yash Chopra declined it. So Aamir quit.

Chopra also changed cast. It is said Divya Bharti was originally signed for Darr but got replaced by Juhi later.

Sunny was bound to get angry as Chopra gave songs to the villain, made it look like he was a passionate lover and audience sympathy went to him and back then, it was songs with SRK that became bigger hits and played on T.V. and promos also featured SRK and Juhi more than Sunny.

So while SRK did indeed act good and his Kkkkkiran became a big hit, Sunny was indeed shortchanged in promos and songs and audience sort of felt sympathy for SRK character. Also SRK being younger, looked better with Juhi compared to Sunny and the best songs went to SRK, sung by Udit Narayan who was also top singer then. TV was flooded with Tu hai meri Kiran and Tu mere saamne songs. Songs with Sunny hardly played then.

Sunny is said to have ripped his pants in frustration during final days of shooting itself. He never worked with YRF again.

If Aamir had aversion to negative roles why would he do Fanaa where he played a terrorist? And that too right after idealistic roles like Lagaan, RDB, Mangal pandey? Aditya Chopra is said to have mend fences with Aamir.

If one isn't in harmony with a director or producer why then work with them (again)? There is NO importance to me for such issues...there are other producers and directors the dissatisfied actor/actress can work with (the next times).

It's the end product that imports me (as I've no insight to verify the truth of the spread statements).

But is there an answer to my question?

I dont understand Sunny’s frustration TBH. The story was always from the perspective of the villain. Of course the villain would get more screenspace. Didnt YRF also offer the role to Sunny and Sunny rejected as he didn’t want to play a negative role ?

It was an experimental movie with no such film being made by then projecting the villain as main character. And Sunny was the hero of the movie and Sunny did rescue the heroine from the villain. 🤔 I dont yet see how it is YRF’s fault exactly.
