Celebrating Love in HYMAE Arjun : In the 'Arjun' universe, there are many beloved ships. But undisputedly the most loved and missed is the bond that Arjun and Riya shared. I can safely speak for all Ariya shippers that those 21 episodes remain to be our favourite moments in Arjun's journey, one where we saw him soften, begin to smile and slowly open up. Only for the 22nd to shatter our hearts and leave us with a void that at least I still haven't been able to fill.

For me personally, in 10 years, no other couple has held a candle to what Ariya shared. The kind of hold these two have on me is unparalleled. And a small part of my heart will always cherish their journey.

I was a little late to the fandom. Only found the show a couple of years after it had gone off-air. When I binged the first 22 episodes in 3 days only to find Riya gone by the end of it - I was distraught. But their journey opened the door to a very new world for me. The world of fan fictions became my solace. It was them that got me into the world of not only FF's but also India forums. I was surprised that so many people fell so in love with them in a mere 22 episodes... it made me believe that Sana and Shaleen really did create magic on screen as Riya and Arjun. One that enchanted our minds and captured our hearts.

On the momentous occasion of the show turning a decade. I think it is worth taking a moment to relive this short and yet wonderful journey these two shared. One that though had begun to take shape of something beautiful only to end on a tragic note. One that has grown to become a part of us.

Their story started with a misunderstanding, a fight unlike what we normally see between two leads of a show took place, not words but punches were thrown at each other.

For Riya, Arjun evoked mixed feelings. She hated him for being cold, she was annoyed at his rude behaviour and yet by the end of their first case together she couldn't help but admire him for the brilliant cop he was.

And while Arjun held no special feelings towards her, his stoic and cold behaviour as unwavering as ever. He couldn't help but begin to steal glances of the research specialist.

And though they both misunderstood each other at one point or another, bantering and taunting each other between cases. Somewhere amidst Arjun's "dur raho mujhse" and Riya's "aurat ki kabilyat par kabhi shakh nahi karna chahiye" a slow warmth began to develop. The rough and tough ACP, that had buried all feelings after the death of his wife smiled. He smiled in the comfort of her presence, he smiled at her words, he smiled at HER.

Arjun's well built walls round had started to show signs of crumbling in Riya's presence. The man that had lost all faith in god allowed Riya to place a silver coin, one that ultimately saved his life, in his pocket. It seemed almost like god had given whatever was growing between these two his blessings.

Arjun 'I don't care' Suryakant Rawte, had slowly started to care. As Riya's guilt eats away at her, it is Arjun who steps in to console her. "Tumne ek jaan li nahi hai Riya, ek jaan bachayi hai. Dono mein bahut farak hota hai"

This is easily my favourite Ariya moment. In her most vulnerable state Riya found Arjun as her pillar. The one who showed her that it wasn't her fault and that she had nothing to feel guilty about.

The silent growth of their bond was the highlight of the first 22 episodes. Though nothing much was said so much was conveyed. From being teased by Chotu and Shree to stealing glances. From the thank you's to the your welcomes Arjun and Riya had become Ariya.

But kehte hai na ishq sacha wahi jisse milti nahi manzile. Jaise yeh kahaani adhuri thi waise hi iss kahaani ka yeh hissa adhura rehe gaya. Riya's time in the Arjun verse had only just began when it came to an end.

Arjun once again found himself helpless as yet another person he cared about stared death in its eyes.

"Tumhe kuch nahi hoga Riya" was Arjun's desperate attempt to latch on to the last shred of hope. It was him hoping against hope. But Riya knew, Riya knew the moment she made the decision that what would come next would be the last couple of moments she would have left.

"Please Riya, don't give up on me" was Arjun's last plea

As she breathed her last, her words were left unfinished. Ones that she wanted to convey to Arjun. Even in her last seconds she felt this need in her to tell Arjun that she now understood, why she never really understood. And what she had left unfinished, Arjun finished for her.

Closing her eyes, was their last goodbye to each other.

She died a hero, saving millions of lives at the cost of her own. Riya had grown to be a beyond cable officer. She had grown to be a brave one, doing something very few can. And with her gone, ended Ariya's journey.

But that was only in the show. A lot of wonderful writers have taken it upon themselves to complete the story that was left unfinished. And so through them, I have lived their journey multiple times, a thousand different journeys a 1000 different times.
