So I watched the movie last night 😆 I don't even know where to begin, I knew what I was getting in to, I knew I'll have to leave my brain at the door, but seeing people going gaga over this movie here, there was a small glimmer of hope, that maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't be as bad as I was expecting it to be.
Lo and behold! I was proven wrong, it wasn't as bad as I expected, it was several times worse. This has got to be one of the worst movies I've seen in a while, never have I regretted spending time/money at the cinema.
To start off with, there's no story, it's just a series of action scenes, nothing that you haven't seen before, cheesy dialogues, and bad CGI. The characters are all stupid, the movie doesn't even make an attempt to at least stay true to the geopolitics of the region.
John plays a renegade RAW agent who runs a terrorist organisation, he turns against India cause terrorists captured him and his pregnant wife, and the Indian government refused to negotiate with the terrorists, so they kill his wife. We are are told that this is the inflection point in his life, and the alleged motivation behind his actions, except it's not. He doesn't actually attack India until he's hired to do so 😆 there is no ideological/personal motivation behind his actions, not even his personal tragedy is enough of a reason for him to do anything, he does it for purely for money. Of course, he's angry at the government, so decides to kill innocent people instead.
Some people here have said that the movie shows the ISI as the bad guy, well, that is a half-truth. Yeh, the ISI is shown as a bad guy (because it's literally just one guy) but not the organisation, we are told that it's just a "few bad extremists" in the ISI, like the guy who hires Jim, as if the rest of the ISI is all about peace. We're talking about the ISI that has a military doctrine called "Bleed India with a thousand cuts". The same ISI that has been involved in every terrorist attack against India, the same ISI that funded and supported the Taliban, but sure, it's just a "few bad extremists". Btw, Pathaan thinks that Rubina (Deepika) joined ISI to "serve humanity" 🤣🤣🤣
Pathaan is a complete idiot, he meets Rubina knowing she's an ISI agent, and completely trusts her within 5 mins, probably couldn't think beyond his dick after seeing her gyrating in skimpy clothes to Besharam Rang, and then gets lured to Jim, where he's captured. 😆 If that isn't bad enough, he's shocked when Rubina betrays him 😆 and then the moron trusts her again. The movie is so bad that you can't help but laugh.
SRK face looks completely CGI'd, he looks less like a Raw agent, and more like someone suffering from midlife crisis, also I do have one problem with this movie, because it's deliberately done, definitely not coincidental. This is the second SRK movie where the terrorist is an ex-Indian soldier, the first being Main Hoon Na, why is he so hesitant at showing radical Islamist terrorist groups in his movies? the ones who have ACTUALLY carried out terrorist attacks against India? India has not been attacked by disgruntled ex-Indian soldiers. In the movie, there is a scene where someone is listing out various terrorist attacks around the world, carried out by ISIS, Boko Haram etc, then Pathaan jumps in, and is like, "these attacks weren't carried out by them, not directly anyway, it was all done by Outfit X"
Especially in the backdrop of the revocation of Article 370, even in an imaginary world, why that hell would the ISI hire an ex-Raw agent? we know they went nuts after Article 370 was revoked, and have thousands of terrorists at their disposal, acknowledged by Imran Khan himself, at least try to have some semblance to reality that makes some sense.
Anyway, the Buffalo makes an appearance in this movie, all of us just started laughing, the last time I saw him was in Ek Tha Buffalo, if they wanted a renegade Raw agent, why not send Pathaan after Buffalo, who betrayed his country for a piece of ass, and then capture and bring him back to India to face sedition, that would've made for a better movie.
There is a lot more nonsensical things, but this is long enough, to sum up, RAW is portrayed as a bunch of incompetent bumbling gullible idiots who can't figure out anything until an ISI agent helps them, the ISI are not really against India, it's just a "few extremist people" acting independently, the messaging/narrative is terrible. Even if you ignore all of the above and just watch it as a generic action movie, it's bad, about 10-15 people walked out in the second half, I was inclined to join them but had come with a group of people. Deepika looked hot though, probably the hottest she's ever looked! so I give the movie 1/10 just for her hotness. There were a couple of girls who got up and started dancing during the Jhoome Jo Pathaan, that was the only best part of the evening. 😆
My advice is, only watch this if you're an SRK fan, or have absolutely zero expectations from a movie. 😆
