I love traveling and often travel by train within India, if there is no Airport. There is something romantic about trains and journeys. You get to see a lot of new places in that fast pace, you get to see countryside you often wouldn't see if you were driving the highway or flying thousands of miles in the air. Train travel is also more social.
I have often met interesting people on such journeys and had amazing conversations with them.
This song is not from black and white era, but the story is a musical romance film adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's 1914 Bengali Novella Parineeta. To re-create the 60s era, lot of efforts were made by the producers.
This was and always be a riveting watch for me. No matter how many years later I watch this films or how many times...its not just the music or the story but also the direction. The attention to detail and vibe.
My fav song however is one of the least popular ones from this album.
Raat Hamari Toh - Longing personified
The song is sung by K.S Chitra (who I believe doesn't even know hindi) and Swanand Kirkire who I believe is criminally underrated in bollywood.
What a tune, and what profound lyrics. The lyrical melody merely transports us to another realm where the night embraces us in its darkness, sits beside us, sings to us, and caresses us. There, grief and longing are linked to comfort the lover who will never find true love.Originally posted by: EuphoricDamsel

Sanjha ki baati bhi koi bujha de aaj
Andhere se ji bharke karni hai baatein aaj
Heartrending poetry of sentiments of solitude, separation, angst, and the fear of the indefinite sense of angst-filled loss of the proximity of a beloved, poignant poetry and soul touching Music!
What to say about Chitra, in a career spanning over four decades, she has recorded over 25,000 songs in various Indian languages, as well as foreign languages such as Malay, Latin, Arabic, Sinhalese, English and French. She is also known for her extensive history of collaboration with music composers like A. R. and other famous music personalities.
Andhera pagal hai
Kitna ghanera hai
Chubhta hai, dasta hai
Phir bhi woh mera hai
Uski hi godi mein sar rakhke sona hai
Uski hi baahon mein chupke se rona hai
Aankhon se kajal ban behta andhera aaj
Thank you dear for sharing this song with us. 🤗❤️🤗

You're welcome Madhu. ❤️
This song is just underrated because of the popularity of other songs in the album. Literally everyone goes bonkers when 'Piyu Bole' plays...and that's a great sweet song. But this damn...the emotion here is so intense.
Travelling back to the Golden Era after that brief tryst with the future😳, powered by the Gigawatts from Dev Anand's natural charm and Asha Parekh's sweet smile! (Our time machine beats Doc Brown's DeLorean
doesn't it?)
This one seems to be the inspiration for Mere Sapnon ki Rani, leastways it follows the same path - he's on a car (well on top of a car actually with the baggage strapped 😆) as opposed to Rajesh Khanna's comfortable co-passenger seat in a jeep. But they're both (or rather the car is) chasing her in a train. While Mere Sapnon ki Rani is a song of yearning, of anticipation, a song of a quest for true love with neither of them being aware (yet) of their significant others, this one is a song of confessing true feelings. More accurately urging one's beloved to take that leap of faith and say it out loud, because he knows that she feels the same.
Tum bhi toh iss aag mein jalte ho, chehre se bayan ho jaata hai
har baat pe aahein bharte ho, har baat pe dil tharrata hai!
He jumps off the train in a moment of dare, and she has her heart in her mouth, realizing too late that she goaded him too far, and then he makes it safely, landing on the cushioned baggage atop a car that's been travelling fortuitously at the same speed, at the same time, in tandem with the same compartment they're in 😆, within a viable distance that makes it possible for anyone that's not Superman to make that leap safely. 😆 And keeps up the same speed and distance to allow him to make it back to her on the train again after he's finished his performance! 😆 Hindi film heroes can do anything right? Even if they're as puny and non-athletic as Dev Anand? 😆
And of course, the people in the car are rooting for them too! Who wouldn't be when its Dev Anand perched atop your car trying to woo a fair maiden?
Asha Parekh starts off being hugely relieved that he's safe but once he starts singing - dil ka pardah khol do - she alternates between embarrassed blushes, indulgent smiles, fervent pleas (for him to stop), and feigned anger. Lbr, it has to be feigned anger right? What else can it be? 😆
This song is more reminiscent of Shammi Kapoor's flamboyant style but I think it suits Dev's personality too in quite a different way. The way he mouths an entitled 'Come on' at the start when she turns away from him is so Dev! I can almost him saying in his rapidly fluent style, "I jumped off the train for you, the least you can do is say you love me too!"😆
After all, this movie, Jab pyar kisise hota hai (1961), is just another recycled script from the Nasir Hussain trope repository of fake identities, misunderstandings, and long lost children. In other words, this movie could be interchangeable with another NH movie, Dil deke dekho or even Tumsa Nahi Dekha, set apart by only the songs. 😳 But what songs! ⭐️
Music is by Shankar Jaikishen and lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri, Rafi lends his voice - and I still maintain that his voice is best suited for Dev. 😳
There's another version by Lata, which appears in a more serious context but surprisingly S-J keep up the same upbeat tempo for that one, changing only the lyrics.
I’m just toying with the idea of doing a live listening and appreciation session every week - kind of like a Sadabahar live radio with all of us members tuning in at the same time at a mutually convenient and agreed upon time.
We would all take turns playing host each session and play (or post) our favorite songs and share some trivia (if you want) or simply why you love that song. The songs could all be from a particular theme (eg. Kishore songs, SDB songs, rain songs, songs based on a particular raag) or they could simply be your favorite picks. We can be flexible about the theme!
The main intent being to gather most of us together at the same time so we could have meaningful discussions, and spend some time listening (and appreciating) these songs in real time.
I just wanted to throw this idea out there and invite suggestions. First of all- to explore if this it at all feasible since we’re all from different time zones.
What are your thoughts? If you guys think this is doable could you respond to this post with a convenient time each week (or perhaps we could have it twice a month) that works for you? I’m thinking Friday late evening IST but idk if everyone is agreeable. It could be an hour long or 30 min long session (again this is up for discussion)
Let me know your thoughts.
Sounds like an amazing idea! Where should we host it? Discord or something?
ohh I wasn’t thinking of anything that complex. Just here on IF- I thought we could post songs and people will be online to listen to them and we could all post about them. But I’m open to the discord idea as well. Not sure if everyone will be willing to shift there though. IF needs a live chat option. Maybe we could open a private forum for this?Originally posted by: DelusionsOfNeha
